Gary West Hyndman, 71, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away on May 2, 2022, from complications related to diabetes. He leaves behind his daughter, Vanessa (Matt) Petersen, sister Gerrie Lou Hyndman, his long-time love, Kristi Olson and grandson Nathan Petersen. His brother, David Hyndman, lived in Australia and pre-deceased Gary in August 2021.
Gary was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to William and Mary Lou Hyndman and grew up with his brother, David, and twin sister, Gerrie. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1957 and then to Littleton, Colorado, in 1960. As a teen, he loved spending his time tinkering on motorcycles, reading comic books, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Spudnut donuts. He went on to graduate from Arapahoe High School in 1969, then attended Colorado State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and later received a Master's degree in Information Technology.
His studies at CSU sparked his passion for teaching, which became his life's work, teaching at Arvada West Junior High and Standley Lake & Chatfield High Schools, retiring in 2003. Upon his retirement he enjoyed making the most of his free time with many road trips and baseball games, moving from Denver to Minnesota and then onto Arizona with his partner, Kristi. The two of them moved back to the Denver area in 2013 and his grandson Nate was born that same year. Sharing his love of Superman, art and playing games with Nate brought him great joy.
Gary had a deep love for making people laugh, telling stories and enjoying time with old friends. He loved movies, baseball, Superman, a good cup of coffee and creating art. He will be deeply missed by many.
To honor Gary's memory, we are holding a celebration of his life on June 18, 2022, at Paramount Park (2899 Kipling St, Wheat Ridge) at 12:00. Please bring a potluck dish or drinks to share. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and remember his wonderful life.
