As we were locating classmates for our 50th reunion, I was shocked and saddened to learn of Barry's death. Barry and I went to prom together our senior year. I was determined NOT to go to prom, but Barry called me (not long before the prom) and said he would talk me into it (which he did). He promised we'd have a great time and we did. He arrived to pick me up in a top hat and tails (very "Puttin on the Ritz"!). A note in my scrapbook says that we went to prom, after-prom and breakfast (and that I got home at 6:30 AM). Barry and I remained friends and I saw him a few times over the years. He was smart and funny and I am sad to know that I won't get to see him at this reunion.

I was greatly surprised to hear that Barry the “Bear” Van Orman had passed away in 2012. He was a team mate on the football team. We also shared several classes together. We all know Barry was super smart. He also had good judgment and character. He also had quite a sense of humor. He was a positive guy with a good laugh.
Barry worked hard weightlifting and built a strong body. He was an outstanding defensive lineman. If I remember correctly he was All League his senior year. He did play some college football at Johns Hopkins.
I remember one incident after a football game where the team went to a buffet dinner after the game. That was a mistake because Barry liked to eat and he stuffed himself. Then he erupted and wiped out the other side of the table. I am glad I was not sitting across from him.
He always came to the reunions even though he was a busy dentist. We will miss him at the 50th Reunion.

Oh my, I am so sad to learn of Barry’s death. Too young. Will always have a special place in my heart.
