Via Ferrata as a non-formal learning tool

Via ferrata, which means "iron way" in Italian, is a mountain adventure activity that involves climbing natural rock faces, ridges, and other challenging terrain using a system of metal rungs, cables, ladders, and bridges. These elements are strategically installed to provide climbers safety and assistance during the ascent.

Via ferrata routes are typically found in mountainous regions and are designed to provide individuals with a thrilling and challenging experience while maintaining a higher level of safety than traditional rock climbing. Participants wear a harness and helmet and are attached to the safety cable, which runs alongside the route. This system allows climbers to secure themselves to the cable with lanyards and carabiners, ensuring that they are protected from falls.

Via ferrata routes vary in difficulty, from relatively easy and suitable for beginners to extremely challenging routes for experienced climbers. These routes often offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape and can be an excellent way to explore the beauty of mountain environments. Participating in via ferrata activities requires appropriate equipment, safety knowledge, and, in some cases, a guide or instructor, especially for those new to the sport.

Via ferrata isn't just a thrilling climb; it's a journey of personal growth, where you become the protagonist in a quest to conquer both the mountain and your own potential. Here's how this exhilarating experience transforms into a non-formal learning tool, helping you acquire new competences while creating unforgettable memories.

In essence, via ferrata isn't just a mountain climb; it's an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and skill development, a metaphor for life's adventures and challenges. With every step, you're not just scaling heights; you're reaching new heights in personal growth.

Operation Hook | Erasmus+ Small Collaborative Partnership

Would you try out a via Ferrata called "Goats Danger"? We said yes to the adventure and climbed the Kecskevész via Ferrata in Harghita Mădăraș mountains. Fun fact, if you run out of battery, you can find a socket right after crossing the Vietnamese bridge. The activity was part of the project "Operation Hook", a Small Collaborative Partnership in Sports project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
