If you want a lightweight, universal solution that fits almost any vehicle for parking garages and occasional outdoor trips, choose AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack; if you need a rigid, high-capacity platform specifically engineered for your Jeep Grand Cherokee to handle heavy loads and highway speeds, choose Deepace Roof Rack Cross.
• AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack: The biggest strength is its universal fit for sedans, SUVs, and compact cars without existing crossbars, making it incredibly versatile; the trade-off is reliance on soft pads and straps which may require more frequent tension checks during long drives. This pick is for owners of vehicles without factory rails who need a simple, portable way to transport a kayak or surfboard.
• Deepace Roof Rack Cross: The biggest strength is its vehicle-specific design with a 330-pound load capacity and aerodynamic aluminum construction that eliminates guesswork during installation; the trade-off is that it is strictly limited to 2011–2021 Jeep Grand Cherokees with grooved side rails and cannot be used on other models. This pick is for Jeep owners who need a permanent, heavy-duty solution for bikes, cargo boxes, or multiple kayaks.
The AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack is designed for the driver who does not own a dedicated roof rack system yet. It solves the problem of transporting wide, bulky items like kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, or even ladders on vehicles that lack crossbars entirely. The core of this system relies on two thick, shock-resistant EVA foam pads covered in UV-resistant ballistic nylon. These pads sit directly on the car's roof, distributing the weight of your gear and protecting the paint from scratches. Because it uses a universal design, it bypasses the need for expensive aftermarket racks or factory-installed systems, making it an accessible entry point for outdoor enthusiasts.
Installation is straightforward and requires no tools, which appeals to those who want to get moving quickly. You simply drape one strap over the roof to hold the pads in place, then use the additional tie-down straps and ropes to secure the load. The package includes metal clamps, quick loops, and carabiners to create a comprehensive securing system. However, because this is a soft-rack solution rather than a hard-mount structure, the stability depends heavily on how well you tighten the straps. The product data notes that the tie-down straps have a 1200-pound breaking strength, but it explicitly warns users to periodically check the straps when operating at high speeds. This means if you are planning a long road trip across the country, you will need to stop and re-tension the straps occasionally to ensure safety.
This product is ideal for someone with a sedan, MPV, or compact SUV who wants to take their kayak to a local lake or river on weekends. It is also perfect for drivers concerned about low clearance, as the soft pads sit lower to the roof than many rigid bars. However, if you drive a large truck with a bed cap or a vehicle with complex roof contours, the universal fit might not provide the same level of security as a custom-fit system. It is best suited for occasional use where you can easily remove the pads after every trip to save space in your garage. If you need to park in tight spaces or low-clearance areas frequently, this low-profile design offers a distinct advantage over bulkier alternatives.

The Deepace Roof Rack Cross is built for a very specific audience: owners of the 2011 through 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with grooved side rails. Unlike the universal approach of the AQUARM, this system is precision-engineered to lock directly into the vehicle's factory mounting points. This specificity eliminates the instability that often comes with generic roof pads. The crossbars themselves are constructed from reinforced aluminum alloy, offering a substantial 330-pound load capacity. This rating suggests they are built to handle heavier combinations of gear, such as two bicycles, a large rooftop cargo box, or multiple kayaks, without flexing or compromising the vehicle's structural integrity.
One of the most critical features for daily drivers is the aerodynamic profile. The design is intended to reduce wind resistance and driving noise, which is a common complaint with cheaper, flat-bar solutions. When you install these bars, you are getting a low-noise experience that feels integrated with the vehicle rather than an add-on. The inclusion of protective rubber pads at all contact points ensures that your Jeep's roof remains scratch-free, addressing concerns about damage that often plague DIY installations. Furthermore, the anti-theft lock system adds a layer of security that soft straps simply cannot match, giving you peace of mind when leaving your gear in public parking lots or trailheads.
This product is the clear choice for the Jeep owner who treats their vehicle as a serious utility machine for camping, skiing, or biking. The "no drilling or cutting" aspect makes it a permanent fixture that stays on the car year-round, unlike the AQUARM which you would likely store away after each use. It is also sunroof friendly, meaning you can still open the panoramic glass top without interference, a feature that is vital for many modern SUV owners. However, you must verify your exact model year and rail type before purchasing, as it is incompatible with black roof moldings found on SRT, Trackhawk, or Altitude trims. If your Jeep has the wrong rail style, this entire system will not fit, rendering it useless regardless of its quality.
• Best for Universal Fit → AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack works on sedans, compacts, and SUVs without existing crossbars, whereas Deepace only fits specific Jeep models.
• Best for Low Clearance Parking → AQUARM sits lower with soft pads, making it safer for tight parking garages, while Deepace adds height due to the rigid bar profile.
• Best for Highway Stability → Deepace offers a rigid, aerodynamic frame that reduces sway, whereas AQUARM requires manual tightening checks to maintain security at speed.
• Best for Ease of Removal → AQUARM can be taken off and stored in minutes with its included bag, while Deepace is designed to stay mounted for long-term use.
• Best for Cargo Security → Deepace includes a metal anti-theft locking system, while AQUARM relies on standard straps and carabiners.
• Best for Wind Noise Reduction → Deepace features an aerodynamic profile specifically tested to minimize drag, while AQUARM's flat pads may generate more turbulence.
• Best for Versatility → AQUARM can carry ladders, furniture, and boards on various cars, while Deepace is optimized for bikes, boxes, and water sports on the Jeep.
In my opinion, I would buy the Deepace Roof Rack Cross if I owned a compatible Jeep Grand Cherokee. The engineering behind a vehicle-specific mount provides a level of confidence and stability that soft pads simply cannot match, especially when carrying heavy gear or traveling at highway speeds. The 330-pound capacity and anti-theft locks make it a superior investment for anyone who plans to use their roof regularly. However, if I drove a different type of vehicle or needed something for occasional trips to a nearby beach, I would opt for the AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack. Its portability and ability to fit any car make it the smarter choice for versatility, particularly when navigating low-ceiling parking garages where height is a constant concern. Ultimately, the decision comes down to whether you prioritize a permanent, robust setup or a flexible, temporary solution.
No, the Deepace Roof Rack Cross is exclusively designed for 2011–2021 Jeep Grand Cherokees with grooved side rails and will not fit models with black roof moldings or SRT variants.
No, the AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack package is complete with tie-down straps, quick loops, ropes, and carabiners, so you do not need to purchase additional securing hardware.
The Deepace Roof Rack Cross is better for highway driving because its aerodynamic aluminum profile is specifically shaped to reduce wind resistance compared to the flat EVA foam pads of the AQUARM.
While possible, it is generally recommended to remove the AQUARM Kayak Roof Rack after each use to prevent potential wear on the straps and to keep your vehicle's roof clean, whereas the Deepace is built for long-term mounting.
