Q: Do you have to push just because you're 10 centimeters dialated?

Answer: Great question! No, you do not have to push until your body says it's time. Sometimes our bodies have an opportunity to rest and labordown. If you choose to rest, just listen to your body, it will push and you won't be able to resit the urge

Q: Do I have to nurse on both sides of the breast with every feed?

Answer: No, you don't have to nurse on both sides but you can. You will find the right rhythm for you and your baby.

Q: What temperature should I keep the house for my baby?

Answer: The house temperature should be 68-72 degrees F. The cooler side is better than warmer because one of the risk factors for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is overheating.

Q: How warm should I dress my baby?

Answer: Because newborns can’t yet regulate their own body temperatures, ensuring you’re not overdressing your baby is important, especially for sleep. Not surprisingly, when a baby is dressed comfortably — not too hot and not too cold — they’ll sleep better.

For awake time, baby should wear one layer more than you are wearing. If you have a long sleeve shirt on, the baby should have a onesie on underneath their outfit or sleeper. If you're using a blanket to sleep, the baby should be dressed in a sleeper and in a sleep sack or swaddled. Check the TOG (Thermal Overall grade) of the sleep sack. The rule of thumb is the higher the TOG, the warmer the garment.

Q: Do you serve Seaford, Delaware?

Answer: Yes! Our doulas provide Birth Support, Postpartum Care and Overnight Newborn Care throughout Seaford and the surrounding Delmarva Peninsula.

Q: I'm breastfeeding, how would Overnight Newborn Care help me since I have to get up anyway?

Answer: Breastfeeding mamas are so surprised at the amount of rest they get with overnight support even though they're breasfeeding! Instead of you getting up and changing baby, nursing, burping, holding baby upright for ease of digestion, rocking and settling baby back to sleep (if they choose to sleep), our Newborn Care Specialists will do the diaper change, wake you when it's time to nurse & then send you back to bed. We finish the burping, and settling baby back down. So instead of you being up for an hour or more, you've enjoyed the sweet nursing session and snuggles are back to be within 15-20 min! That's some precious sleep right there!

Q: How much milk should my baby drink when they are first born?

Answer: Babies tummies are tiny when they are born and they only need a teaspoon of colostrum per feed for the first couple of days. Colostrum is a super food and has all the nutrients your baby needs until your body transitions it to breast milk.
