Dania's Story
One Cat's Struggle
One Cat's Struggle
Stepping up, even when it’s hard, can change everything
IT ALL STARTED MONDAY - I came across a sick black-and-white feral cat in the plaza where I go for hand therapy. Named him Dania (since that’s where I was). He was limping badly and couldn’t sit right, and I could see he was suffering.
I videotaped him and then reached out to my friend Susan Rosemarin, who owns and runs a small non-profit cat rescue (called Cat Tales From The Streets) for feral cats. She told me Dania needed immediate vet care—“like yesterday.” I explained that I could help pay for but couldn’t afford an expensive vet bill on my own, and she generously offered to help, even sending a volunteer trapper. When that didn’t work after two days, I hired a professional trapper named Liz, and for $100 she caught Dania quickly. Liz even trapped another unneutered tabby, for an additional $75, who we got fixed and returned. What a day!
I rushed Dania to the vet, where we learned the heartbreaking truth: Dania likely had been bitten by an FIV+ cat. His infected foot had deteriorated so badly that the bone itself was damaged, leaving him unable to walk or sit without pain. The vet said his leg would need amputation.
However, Dania was a hard to handle feral cat, FIV+, and already in poor health, euthanasia was the most humane option.
So, while he was sedated, we made the compassionate decision to let him go peacefully.
WHAT A TOUGH WEEK!
Susan originally thought her nonprofit could help cover the vet cost, but in reality she’s already stretched thin, caring for two colonies out of her own pocket—food, traps, medical bills, everything.
Dania's vet bill including cremation came to $344.
So, I’d like to repay Susan for her generosity and compassion and need your help, if possible.

My hope is simply that Dania’s story reminds us-
If you see an animal suffering, Please Don’t Look Away (The people who fed this cat could have helped months ago).
Even a small effort—reporting it, asking for help—can save months of needless pain like this little guy had endured.
