APO LEADS Courses

In order to participate in the Achieve or Discover LEADS course, participants MUST have completed the APO LEADS LAUNCH course. This can be completed online prior to conference through APO LEADS On-Demand: https://apo.org/leadership-development/apo-leads/

You may only choose ONE (1) LEADS course to participate in on Sunday morning of conference, and it will take the full 3-hour time block, meaning that you will be unable to attend any other sessions being offered at the same time. We will have an interest form sent to everyone once conference registration closes.

Achieve

Achieving success through teams: This course centers on the advantages of generating a team-like atmosphere by teaching participants a set of skills that set them up to be able to lead their chapters to universal success.

This 3-hour session focuses on the interaction of members in the chapter, the leaders and the factors that lead to team success. Utilizing a mixture of interactive exercises and discussion, ACHIEVE takes the participants through a learning process that energizes, empowers and recognizes teams. ACHIEVE centers on skill development on the Team Achievements model (©Career Dimensions 1996) and celebrating success. This workshop includes:

What is a team?
Being a good follower
Understanding team dynamics
Resolving conflicts within teams
Knowing the roles people may play in a team
Respecting and utilizing the diversity of a team
Sharing leadership
Celebrating individual and team success

Discover

Discovering personal strengths and success skills: This course is a comprehensive training on the strategies of assertive communication and self-motivation. Participants will gain a better understanding of their own and other’s social interaction styles.

Identifying some of the personal success strategies that leaders utilize is the focus of this 3-hour session. DISCOVER will be an opportunity to look at oneself, concentrating on personal strengths and developing a plan for continued personal and professional success while considering:

Personality styles and their interactions
Assertive communication techniques
Personal time management
Stress recognition
Motivation of followers

Service Activities

Collection Drive for Exodus Refugee

Prior to conference, Chapters and individuals are encouraged to host collection drives or personal donations of supplies for Exodus Refugee. This organization "is dedicated to the protection of human rights by serving the resettlement needs of refugees and other displaced people fleeing persecution, injustice, and war by welcoming them to Indiana." They have been serving the Indianapolis and Indiana community since 1981. To learn more, visit www.exodusrefugee.org/.

Donations Requested:

Cleaning Supplies: Trash bags, sponges, toilet brushes, detergent, paper towels, toilet bowl cleaner
Hygiene Items: Deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, razors, toothpaste, floss, soap
Food: Pinto/black dry beans, rice, masa flour, salt, oil
School Supplies: Loose leaf paper, markers, binders, folders, pencils, safety scissors, crayons, notebooks, index cards

Visiting Exodus Refugee

During Saturday morning of conference, several members will travel to Exodus Refugee to drop off our collection donations. More details will be provided closer to Conference.

Overdose Lifeline Kit Packing Support

During conference on Saturday, there will be an opportunity to assist Overdose Lifeline with packing their overdose reversal kits. This organization "offers evidence-based programs for developing overdose prevention strategies that seek to address underlying problems, raise awareness and develop crucial support networks." They have been serving the Indianapolis and Indiana community since 2014, and their impact has reached all parts of the United States. The Alpha Tau Chapter and Butler University has worked closely with this organization throughout the years. To learn more, visit www.overdoselifeline.org/.
