The Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics research group (APLL) is a point of contact for researchers in the UK and elsewhere working on Austronesian and Papuan languages. It is a successor to the UK Austronesian Research Group (of UKARG), which was established in 2005 in response to an increasing level of research activity in the UK in Austronesian languages and linguistics. APLL continues the UKARG tradition but with a wider focus, including Papuan languages as well as Austronesian.
The objectives of APLL are:
to hold regular research seminars as a forum for discussion for researchers working in Austronesian and Papuan languages and linguistics;
to organise occasional workshops and conferences on Austronesian and Papuan linguistics; and
to encourage research in Austronesian and Papuan languages.
APLL organises a number of research based events throughout the year. Anyone who has an interest in Austronesian and/or Papuan languages is encouraged to participate. Details of previous events are available on this site.
The 17th Conference on Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics (APLL17) will be held at the University of Cologne on 21-23 July 2025. Conference website: https://apll17.sciencesconf.org/.
