Boy Scout Troop 613 is chartered by Woodhaven Baptist Church in Apex, NC. Because of our strong partnership with our Chartering Organization, our troop is distinctly Christian. All boys are welcome. However, we do teach the Bible as the Word of God, and use the Bible as the foundation for character development.

Our troop number comes from Ephesians 6:13

"Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm."

Troop 613 is a complete boy-lead troop where they are encouraged to figure this out themselves, leading to future leadership. In order to join this troop you must be 11 years or older, and be 5th grade or above.

A couple of months ago, it was my privilege to take over as Troop 613's Scoutmaster. Having been an Assistant Scoutmaster for a couple of years now, and remembering my experience as a Christian Eagle Scout, my goal is to continue the tradition of leading a true Boy Lead Troop. I will also put my Woodbadge training to good use as I work on my goals for my ticket with the Troop. In addition to my experience with the Troop, I was a Cubmaster in my previous life for 5 years.

No Troop is perfect, but we strive to have a quality program that continues to have the Scouts and Scouters grow in both leadership and scouting skills, all the while honoring God in the process.

Admittedly, I have a lot to learn (and will continue to learn as I move forward), but I have a great Committee Chair (our previous Scoutmaster, Tim Taylor) and an excellent group of Assistant Scoutmasters to work with and learn from.

As Scouting’s founder, Lord Baden Powell said, “Scouting is a game for boys under the leadership of boys under the direction of a man”.
