Alejandro Perdomo-Ortiz is Vice President of Quantum Algorithms at QC Ware Corp., where he leads quantum algorithm strategy and the development of quantum and artificial intelligence solutions for applications spanning materials discovery, finance, and other computationally challenging domains.
Across academia, government research, and industry, Alejandro has contributed to advancing the practical adoption of quantum computing through algorithm design, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of quantum and classical computational methods.
Prior to joining QC Ware, Alejandro served as Research Director of Quantum AI at Zapata Computing, where he led the development of quantum algorithms and guided multidisciplinary teams advancing hybrid quantum-classical solutions for emerging applications. Earlier, he led the Quantum Machine Learning effort at NASA’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (NASA QuAIL), helping shape research direction at the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He later co-founded Qubitera LLC, a quantum consulting firm acquired by Rigetti Computing, where he focused on bringing quantum algorithms closer to execution on emerging hardware platforms.
Alejandro previously held an Honorary Senior Research Associate appointment at University College London, supervising doctoral research and collaborating on academic initiatives in quantum information science. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Harvard University. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the design, implementation, and optimization of quantum computing algorithms, emphasizing performance, scalability, and the translation of scientific advances into practical technological capabilities.
His contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including NASA’s 2014 Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Award and the 2016 Ames Honor Award. In 2017, he was recognized by the Colombian Embassy in the United States as one of the 22 most influential Colombians in the country for his scientific leadership and outreach efforts supporting the next generation of scientists and technologists.
