Apartment: Literary Companion
The Literary Companion (1st ed.) is currently provided for readers for free. As it is a continual work in project and very much dependent on readers' questions, thoughts, and theories, it was decided that the best thing to do was keep the companion free until it reaches a more complete state. The button below will take you to the PDF.
The next edition of Apartment Literary Companion will include certain elements that, due to time constraints, didn't make it into the first edition, including:
Gender-related themes, especially as it pertains to James's behavior and why the book was written to fail the Bechdel test;
The characters as representations of bigger groups/concepts;
Ethical/moral considerations regarding how far people are willing to go to excuse someone's actions and how compassion, sympathy, or empathy can also affect that;
Additional exploration of themes such as intention vs action, control vs freedom, and more.
