If you want a sleek, factory-matching trim piece to protect the roof rails of your 2020–2024 Toyota Highlander for hunting trips or daily commutes, choose AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover; if you need a rugged, high-strength steel cargo platform designed specifically for 1/10 RC crawlers to tackle rough terrain, choose Aumotop Durable Metal Roof.
• AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover: Its biggest strength is precise fitment for specific Toyota Highlander trims (XLE, Platinum, XSE) with a lightweight, black aesthetic that blends seamlessly into the vehicle's design; its trade-off is that it serves only as a cosmetic and protective shell, not a load-bearing surface, and it excludes lower-trim models like LE or L.
• Aumotop Durable Metal Roof: Its biggest strength lies in its construction from high-quality steel, offering unmatched durability and a functional luggage tray for heavy-duty hauling on RC crawlers; its trade-off is that it is engineered exclusively for small-scale 1/10 and 1/8 model vehicles, making it completely incompatible with full-size automobiles.
• Who each pick is for: The AOUTTUOA cover is for owners of full-size SUVs seeking to preserve their vehicle's exterior finish, while the Aumotop tray is for hobbyists building or upgrading remote-controlled rock crawlers who need a reliable mounting point for gear.
This product is designed for a very specific audience: owners of the Toyota Highlander who have opted for higher-tier trims such as XLE, Limited, Platinum, XSE, Hybrid XLE, Hybrid Limited, Hybrid Platinum, or Hybrid XSE between the model years 2020 and 2024. If you own one of these vehicles, you likely already appreciate the utility of roof rack rails but may find the exposed metal ends unsightly or prone to wear over time. This cover steps in to fill that gap, acting as an exterior shell trim that caps off the front right side of the rail system.
The primary function here is protection and aesthetics rather than carrying capacity. Its black finish is clearly intended to match the standard factory look of the Highlander's roofline, providing a clean, finished appearance. For a hunter preparing for a long weekend trip, having a roof that looks sharp and well-maintained can be part of the overall experience, even if the gear is stored inside the cabin.
However, there are strict limitations to consider before buying. This part is not universal. It will not fit the Highlander L, LE, or Hybrid LE models, which often come with different rail configurations or end cap designs. It is also critical to verify the exact model year and trim level before purchasing, as the manufacturer explicitly lists this compatibility. If you have a base model or a slightly older version not listed, this item will simply not mount correctly. It is a precision-fit accessory meant to enhance an existing setup, not a solution for vehicles that lack the necessary rail structure entirely.

In stark contrast to the automotive trim piece, the Aumotop Durable Metal Roof is built for a completely different world: the scale of remote-controlled vehicles. This is a luggage tray roof rack engineered specifically for 1/10 and 1/8 scale crawlers, including popular chassis models like the CR01, D90, and SCX10. If you are an RC enthusiast looking to upgrade your rig for serious off-road crawling, this is the component you need. It transforms the top of your miniature vehicle into a functional cargo carrier capable of holding extra batteries, tools, or simulated expedition gear.
The defining characteristic of this product is its material. Constructed from high-quality steel, it prioritizes strength above all else. While many RC accessories are made of plastic or thin aluminum that can crack under stress, this tray is formed to withstand the rigors of outdoor journeys. Whether you are navigating rocky trails, steep inclines, or muddy patches, this steel construction ensures your gear stays secure. The "Durable" in the name is not just marketing fluff; it reflects a design philosophy that demands reliability when your vehicle is being pushed to its limits on uneven ground.
Despite its robust steel build, the design manages to remain lightweight and portable. This balance is crucial for RC cars where added weight can affect suspension performance and battery life. You can carry this tray easily in your gear bag, swapping it out between builds or transporting it to the trailhead without hassle. Installation is described as effortless, requiring minimal tools so you can get back to driving quickly. It serves both a functional purpose—holding your equipment—and an aesthetic one, allowing your crawler to stand out on the trails with a professional, loaded-up look.
• Best for full-size vehicle protection → AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover: Only this product offers a solution for protecting the actual roof rails of a Toyota Highlander SUV.
• Best for heavy-duty load bearing → Aumotop Durable Metal Roof: The steel construction provides a true cargo platform for RC crawlers, whereas the AOUTTUOA cover is purely a shell.
• Best for visual integration → AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover: Designed to match the specific black finish and lines of the Highlander's factory trim.
• Best for off-road durability → Aumotop Durable Metal Roof: Built to survive the impacts and vibrations of rough terrain on a crawler chassis.
• Best for easy installation → Both products score high, but Aumotop emphasizes getting back on the trails quickly with minimal tools, while AOUTTUOA focuses on a seamless, well-designed fit for the car.
• Best for specific compatibility → AOUTTUOA: Strictly limited to Highlander XLE/Platinum/XSE 2020-2024 models.
• Best for versatile hobby use → Aumotop: Fits multiple popular RC platforms including CR01, D90, and SCX10.
• Best for hunting trips (Full Size) → AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover: Specifically recommended for securing the exterior of a real vehicle used for outdoor adventures.
• Best for hunting trips (RC Scale) → Aumotop Durable Metal Roof: Ideal for simulating realistic expedition loads on your hobby-grade crawler during field tests.
For my own needs, particularly when thinking about a real-world application like a hunting trip, I would buy the AOUTTUOA Roof Rack Cover because it is the only logical choice for protecting a full-size vehicle. There is no comparison when it comes to utility; one protects your $50,000 SUV, and the other carries a few ounces of gear on a toy car. The Aumotop option is excellent for its intended purpose as a steel tray for RC crawlers, but it cannot serve a driver on a road trip. If you own a compatible Highlander, the AOUTTUOA cover is a smart investment to keep your roof looking pristine and your rails safe from the elements.
Absolutely not; this product is engineered exclusively for 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC cars like the CR01 and SCX10 and cannot be mounted on a real automobile.
Both products emphasize easy installation; the Aumotop tray requires minimal tools for quick setup on RC crawlers, and the AOUTTUOA cover is designed with user-friendly features for a straightforward fit on the Highlander.
