Welcome message

Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) is an important technique in order to perform the brain and spine surgeries safely. In the US, the institution of IONM specialists has already been established. Patients in need of brain or spine surgeries choose hospitals where IONM is implemented as a matter of preference.

In Japan, on the other hand, there are few opportunities for orthopedic surgeons to learn new findings and techniques related to IONM. The Japanese Society of Clinical Neurophysiology has held a seminar of IONM annually since 2015, providing orthopedic surgeons with relevant knowledge and techniques.

Since 2006 when international society of intraoperative neurophysiology was set up, IONM academic meetings and educational courses have been regularly held in several countries. Recently, a wave of internationalization of IONM has also swept over Asia-Oceania regions. The Asian-Oceanian Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (AOSIN) was founded and the 1st congress was held in Seoul in December 2018.

The 5th IONM seminar of Japanese Society of Clinical Neurophysiology is due to be held in Osaka on July 20 (Sat) and 21 (Sun), 2019. It is my great pleasure that we are going to hold the 2nd congress of AOSIN in July 19, 2019, the day before the 5th IONM seminar. I’d like to express my gratitude to all the members and all those whom it may concern.

I sincerely hope that the 2nd congress of AOSIN can provide useful information, leading to the progress of IONM in many countries.
