How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want to add volume, mic-mute and game/chat balance control to the Xbox One controller you already own, choose AOLION Headset Adapter; if you need a complete over-ear gaming headset with its own mic, drivers and cable, choose BENGOO G9000.
These two products get compared a lot, but they are not really rivals. One is a small black adapter that plugs into a controller. The other is a full pink over-ear headset. The honest answer is that the right pick depends on what you already have on your desk — and whether the missing piece is control or sound.
• AOLION Headset Adapter — biggest strength: it turns an Xbox One controller into a proper audio hub, with dedicated buttons for volume, mic mute and game/chat balance, using the original chip so it behaves like a first-party accessory.
• AOLION Headset Adapter — biggest trade-off: it is not a headset. It produces no sound on its own, so you still need a stereo headset with a 3.5mm CTIA plug to hear anything.
• BENGOO G9000 — biggest strength: it is a complete wired headset — 40mm drivers, an omni-directional noise-isolating mic, over-ear memory foam pads and an in-line control box — all in one box.
• BENGOO G9000 — biggest trade-off: it is wired and platform-flexible rather than Xbox-native, and BENGOO itself notes you need an extra Microsoft Adapter when connecting to an old-version Xbox One controller.
• Pick AOLION Headset Adapter if you already own a headset you like and just want cleaner control over chat and game audio.
• Pick BENGOO G9000 if you are starting from nothing and want one purchase that covers audio in and audio out.
The AOLION Headset Adapter is a small matte-black ABS unit that plugs into an Xbox One controller and accepts a 3.5mm headset. That is the whole idea. It exists because controller audio without a mixer is clumsy — you end up buried in the Xbox settings menus adjusting chat versus game levels mid-match. AOLION puts that control back on the controller itself.
The buttons are the point. Volume up and volume down adjust overall game and chat loudness together. The game balance button pushes the mix toward game audio; the chat balance button pushes it toward voice chat. Mic mute is a single press, and an LED glows while the mic is off so you can see at a glance whether you are live. Because it uses the original chip, the adapter is meant to behave the way an official accessory would, with no pairing to the console or a receiver — you plug the headset into the adapter, the adapter into the controller, and you play.
BENGOO G9000: Who It's For
The BENGOO G9000 is the opposite kind of purchase: everything in one. It is a wired over-ear headset with 40mm dynamic drivers covering a 20Hz–20,000Hz range, built around a "surrounding stereo subwoofer" tuning that BENGOO pitches for positional clarity — footsteps and gunshots in shooters like Call of Duty or Overwatch. Whatever you think of marketing language, the spec sheet describes a standard large-driver gaming headset, and that is a sensible baseline for game audio.
The comfort story is deliberately spelled out: protein over-ear pads, a multi-point headbeam, a lightweight metal frame and breathable memory foam, with thickened ear cushions for passive noise isolation. Passive isolation matters here — there is no active noise cancellation, just padding and a sealed over-ear fit that reduces background sound and, per the design notes, heat and sweat over long sessions. The mic is omni-directional, noise-isolating and mounted on a long flexible boom so you can angle it toward your mouth.
Connectivity is where you need to pay attention. The G9000 is a 3.5mm wired headset that BENGOO lists as compatible with PS4, new Xbox One, PC, laptop, PSP, tablet, iPad, computer and phones — but for an old-version Xbox One controller you need an extra Microsoft Adapter, which is not included. In other words, it is a multi-platform headset with one Xbox caveat, not an Xbox-first product. Controls live on the in-line box: a rotary volume wheel and a one-key mic mute on a braided, anti-winding cable that BENGOO lists at 49 inches. The earcups carry LED lighting, the color is pink, and it is covered by a 1-year warranty.
Who should buy it? Someone who needs a full setup — headset, mic and cable — and plays across several devices, or wants a pink headset that stands out. Who should skip it? Xbox One owners with an old controller who do not want to buy an extra adapter, and anyone who already owns a headset they love.
• Best for adding chat/game balance control to an existing Xbox controller → AOLION Headset Adapter. It is the only one of the two that does this at all.
• Best for a complete audio setup out of the box → BENGOO G9000. Drivers, mic, cable, in-line controls — nothing else required.
• Best for an Xbox One, Series X/S or Elite controller → AOLION Headset Adapter. It is designed specifically for those controllers.
• Best for PC, PlayStation, tablet, phone or mixed-platform play → BENGOO G9000. Its compatibility list is far broader.
• Best for mic control while you play → a tie, with different mechanisms. AOLION gives you a mute button with an LED on the adapter; BENGOO gives you a one-key mute on the in-line box.
• Best for long sessions → BENGOO G9000. Over-ear memory foam pads and a lightweight metal frame are built for that; the AOLION adapter is a 30g accessory you will forget is there.
• Best for portability and minimal desk clutter → AOLION Headset Adapter. It is about 3.15 x 1.57 x 0.79 inches and needs no cable management.
• Best for gaming atmosphere → BENGOO G9000. LED-lit earcups versus a matte black plastic adapter — no contest.
In my opinion, most people who already own a decent 3.5mm headset should buy the AOLION Headset Adapter. It solves a specific, everyday annoyance — fumbling through Xbox menus to rebalance chat and game audio — with three buttons, and it does it on the controller itself. I recommend the BENGOO G9000 instead if you have nothing to plug in yet, or if you game across a PC, a PlayStation and a phone as well as Xbox. It is the bigger, more complete purchase. But if you are torn, ask yourself one question: do I need sound, or do I need control? Buy accordingly.
They are not measuring the same thing, so value depends on what you own. If you already have a compatible headset, the adapter adds real functionality for very little. If you have no headset at all, the G9000 is the more complete buy. Check the current price on Amazon for both before deciding.
Sometimes. BENGOO states that an old-version Xbox One controller requires an extra Microsoft Adapter, which is not included. New Xbox One controllers and other listed platforms work with the 3.5mm jack directly. If you own an older controller, factor that in.
It works with stereo gaming headsets that use a 3.5mm jack on the CTIA plug standard. It is designed for Xbox One controllers, including Series X/S and Elite. It does not produce audio by itself, so a headset is required.
The BENGOO G9000 is the one with the comfort design: over-ear protein pads, memory foam, a lightweight metal frame and passive noise isolation for heat and sweat. The AOLION adapter weighs about 30g and simply sits inline on the controller, so it is neither comfortable nor uncomfortable — it just is not a wearable.
Yes, in principle. Plug a G9000 or another 3.5mm headset into the AOLION adapter and you get the headset's audio plus the adapter's volume, mute and game/chat balance buttons on the controller. That combination gives you the most control over chat audio on an Xbox One controller.
