How to reset AOL mail settings?

AOL mail is a free webmail service provider that offers powerful features including enhanced security and encryption. Despite full of extraordinary features, it does not compensate for its flexibility. Users can personalize its looks and working. If you want to link AOL mail with a third-party mail application you have to configure AOL settings. If these settings are not correct you can't send or receive an email. So to have more control over AOL mail working you should know how to reset AOL mail settings.

Rest AOL mail general settings

You can easily customize AOL mail to your suiting. If you feel that the settings are not configured according to your needs you can reset them from your AOL mail account

1. Go to the AOL mail login page.

2. Fill up your login details and click the sign-in button.

3. When you reach your account dashboard, click on the options button, located at the top right of the window.

4. From the option menu, choose mail settings.

General mail setting screen will open up. You can customize the settings according to your need. You can change the inbox look, today on AOL, set message of absence in AOL, etc.

Reset AOL mail server settings

AOL Mail can be easily synced with third party mail application. This gives you access to your AOL mail inbox without the need for an AOL mail login. But you have to set server settings for sending and receiving AOL mails from a third party mail app. Let see how you can reset the settings:

SMTP Settings

For resetting the AOL mail SMTP setting, open the server setting of the third-party mail client you are syncing your AOL mail with.

On the server settings page, select outgoing mail and enter the following details for SMTP settings:

Type smtp.AOL.com for AOL mail server name.

Enter the number 465 for the server port.

For encryption choose TLS/SSL.

Type your AOL mail address as SMTP username and account password as SMTP password.

IMAP & POP settings

For incoming mail, you can select either IMAP or POP setting. Though AOL recommends IMAP settings.

On the server settings page choose incoming mail and enter the following settings:

POP

Type pop.AOL.com as the server name.

The server port will be 995 and encryption should be SSL.

IMAP

If you intend to keep IMAP as an incoming mail setting enter the below details in the settings box:

Type imap.AOL.com as the server name.

Select 993 as server port and for encryption choose SSL

When done click on the Save button to apply the changes.

These settings do not vary with the operating system. You can use the same settings on windows and Mac pc.
