This website has been developed with Google Sites. Browse via Google Chrome for a better experience.
This website aims to aggregate, summarize and present all available knowledge on the ants of Cyprus, while investigating the island's ant biodiversity, their spatiotemporal patterns and biological invasions of alien species.
This dynamic, user-friendly website can be used by anyone. If you are a researcher studying ants, insects etc. or simply interested in ants, their complex lifestyle or ecological significance you are at the right place!
The little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata is one of the world's worst invasive alien species and an invasive alien species of EU concern. It negatively affects native biodiversity, and its painful sting can cause allergic reactions to both pets and people.
Check out the species profile on our website, our page on biological invasions and the educational material section. Have you seen it? Let us know!
Shout out to Ms Elpida Chamzin (@sailorelpis) (@sailor_explores) for this beautiful artwork commissioned for the project's website.
