View, inspect, and export TIN surfaces from LandXML files
LandXML Surface Extractor is a standalone Windows application designed to open and convert terrain surfaces stored in the LandXML format.
The program is intended for situations where you have received a surface as an .xml or .landxml file but do not know how to open it or what to do with it. LandXML files often require Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center, or other specialized software.
If you do not have access to such software, LandXML Surface Extractor allows you to inspect the surface, verify its structure, and convert its geometry into standard TXT, CSV, and DXF files for further use in AutoCAD or another CAD application.
LandXML Surface Extractor may be useful when:
a surveyor, engineer, designer, or client sends you a LandXML surface;
you cannot open the file using your current software;
you do not have Civil 3D or another LandXML-compatible application;
you need to check what surfaces are stored in the file;
you need to extract surface points, triangles, breaklines, or boundaries;
you need to convert the surface to DXF for use in AutoCAD;
you need to export coordinates to TXT or CSV.
You do not need to understand the internal structure of LandXML. Open the file, select the required surface, inspect it in the 3D viewer, and export the required data.
Opens .xml and .landxml files.
Supports multiple TIN surfaces stored in one file.
Interactive 3D surface preview.
Automatically simplified preview model for stable work with large surfaces.
Detailed LandXML import and validation report.
English and Russian interface.
Fully offline operation.
No internet connection is required for normal use.
Surface points can be exported to TXT or CSV.
Available settings include:
field order;
column separator;
number of decimal places;
starting point number;
point-number increment;
point-name prefix and suffix;
description or code;
use of original LandXML point identifiers;
Northing and Easting order;
optional table header.
This allows the exported file to be adapted to different surveying, CAD, and data-processing workflows.
The program can export surface geometry to DXF and place different object types on separate layers.
Supported DXF objects include:
original surface vertices as POINT objects;
unique three-dimensional TIN edges;
surface triangles as 3DFACE objects;
breaklines;
outer and inner surface boundaries;
a regular interpolated grid containing points and three-dimensional grid lines.
The resulting DXF file can be opened in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other applications that support DXF.
When a file is loaded, the program analyzes its structure and reports possible problems, including:
duplicate point identifiers;
points with invalid coordinates;
malformed triangle records;
duplicate triangles;
degenerate or zero-area triangles;
references to missing vertices;
open boundaries;
invalid or incomplete breaklines;
missing coordinate-system information.
Whenever possible, invalid elements are skipped while the valid part of the surface remains available for viewing and export.
The program can be used free of charge for small projects.
Without activation, you can:
open LandXML files of any size;
inspect all surfaces;
use the complete 3D viewer;
review the import and validation report;
fully export surfaces containing up to 5,000 points.
No warning is displayed when exporting a small surface within the free limit.
If a surface contains more than 5,000 points, export is limited in the demonstration version. The program displays a notice only when the export limit has actually been applied.
A full license removes the export limit.
Perpetual license price: 40 USD
The license is issued for one computer and includes all updates within version 1.x.
After purchase, the user receives an individual activation key linked to the computer code. Activation is completed locally, and the program does not require a permanent internet connection.
