Samuel Holland Rous was born on January 15th 1864 in Greencastle, Indiana to John P. Rous and Anna L Rous He married Sophie Muller on December 13th 1894 in St. Paul, Minnesota, he had no children. Sophia Muller performed in the 1890's under the name Sophia Romani. He recorded under the name S.H Dudley (also sometimes under Frank Kernell). He started singing in 1884 with an operetta company and continued to perform with various operetta companies for the next 13 years. He was part of the first touring company to sing grand opera in English in 1891. He was invited to sing with a Quartet for the Edison Company by Steve Porter in 1896. He spent the next 18 years as a Baritone in the Hayden/ Edison Quartet. He was assistant director at Victor from 1902-1912. He was in charge of writing the Victor book of opera and writing the Victor records catalog from 1912-1919. He died on June 6th 1947 in Los Angelos, California and his wife died the next day on June 7th. They are buried in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery.Â
