Benjamin Franklin Butts Sr. Was born on September 7th 1866 in Ohio to Samuel F. Butts and Hannah Colton. He entered the evangelism field in 1888. He married three times, first to Eva Grace Lambright (1867-1941), Mary Emma Rawlings (1869-1919), and Onna Barrett Mills (1896-1963). He had 5 children, Bessie Aileen Butts Funk (1888-1954),Chester Butts (1890-1980), Benjamin Franklin Butts Jr (1920-1994), Robert Colton Butts (1921-1997), And Gloria Onna Butts Fiehier (1924-2005). He was a very prolific religious songwriter, pioneer recording artist, and evangelist. He was mainly based around Kansas City, Missouri, and he recorded a few records for the Kansas City talking machine co. All of his records were recorded in 1898. On April 18th 1897, he was ordered to leave Sherman, Texas by a mob of 30-40 men, due to supposed remarks about "the virtue of southern women". At the time, he was travelling with Rev. J.B Culpepper. He is listed as living at 620 Everett ave, Kansas City. He died on May 25th 1935 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Aged 68.
