A little boy turns his best enemy into his best friend in Derek Munson’s Enemy Pie. Enjoy discussion about acceptance, choices and friendship as well as phonemic awareness activities with your child as you read aloud together.

Words Can BUILD You Up or Tear You Down ~ Lisa Sheik & Amy Lawrence

Word can either build up, encourage, motivate or they can hurt, tear down or leave someone with lasting scars. We will be building and tearing down words using magnetic letter tiles!

Bad Apple: A Tale of Friendship by Edward Hemingway ~ Jamie Pero-Munson & Erin Bourquin

This story follows an unlikely friendship between an apple and a worm, proving that friendships come in many shapes and sizes. In addition, participants will explore how any book can be used to develop phonemic awareness in children and learn about syllables in words using multi-sensory strategies. Visitors will be able to take home this wonderful book as well as materials to practice syllables.

Anti-bullying Resources for Parents ~ Amanda Fulmer & Susan Stewart

CCSD Guidance Counselors assembled a listing of resources used in classrooms to both prevent and intervene in bullying situations. Handouts will be available that focus on what bullying is, and websites and resources to use if their child is being bullied or if their child is bullying. We will be displaying some of the books we use and lesson materials used in classes, including the Second Step curriculum.

Beyond The Song ~ Cheryl Collins & Karen Sandberg

We will be explaining the importance of the Alphabetic Principle and demonstrating to parents how to practice with their child, placing the letters in alphabetical order using a magnetic letter board. Attendees will be able to take the letter board home.

FUN with Letter Formations ~ Sue Holt & Fritzi Kloecker

The First District Title 1 table will showcase the "Writing Grid" which our students are now using in school as part of the new Wilson Fundations English Language Arts program. Stop on by and learn how to form the letters of the alphabet via the skyline, plane line, grass line and worm line!
