Annica Wattler

I am a doctoral candidate and research assistant at the Chair of Economic Policy and Economic Development at the University of Bayreuth.

I will be on the 2026–2027 job market and I am particularly interested in opportunities in Barcelona and the surrounding area.

My research lies at the intersection of Development Economics, Gender Economics, Applied Microeconometrics, Policy Evaluation, Labour Economics, the Economics of Education, and Health Economics. I examine how public policies shape the lives of women and girls in the Global South, focusing particularly on education, marriage markets, and reproductive health. I combine causal inference methods with large-scale survey data to evaluate policies. My work has been published in the Journal of Development Studies. 

I have fieldwork experience in Paraguay, Ghana and South Africa. I am fluent in English, Spanish, French, and German, and am currently learning Catalan.
