I am an Assistant Professor at the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Bloomington.Â
I have a PhD in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. My specializations are in social policy & public finance, especially social spending through the tax code. I hold a BA in International Economics from Valparaiso University and a MA in Public Policy and International Affairs from The American University of Paris. Prior to pursuing my PhD, I worked as a Policy Analyst at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for six years.
My current research agenda focuses on the effects of work-family policies on time use, consumption, and well-being. This aligns with my broader interests in the social safety net, inequality and redistribution; tax policy; population economics; the demography of caregiving, and public values. I am particularly interested in looking at the effect of policy interventions across generations and over the lifecourse. My dissertation focused on the effect of social spending through the tax code (Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit) on the way recipients spend their time and money. My findings help elucidate the mechanisms through which these policies affect the well-being of recipients and their family members.
