Dream Room

In this project, we designed our dream room. I chose a bedroom as my personal bedroom is my safe space and wanted to display that here.

What was the vision?

My vision for this room was a comfortable, safe space that still very clean and engaging. I added personalized factors (ex: posters) to make the room have my touch.

Although I have other pins for inspiration (https://www.pinterest.com/annajeiserr/architecture/dream-room-assignment-2/ ) I believe these 3 pins do the best job at encapsulating my vision.

What do I like?

This room has very cozy feel to it. I got inspiration from the corner bed and shelf.

What do I like?

This is the most inspiring picture for me. The fairy lights and bohemian feel is right up my alley.

What do I like?

This one looks very similar to #1, however it seems to be a bit more clean and put together.

Color Theme

Although I did not color the physical copy, the intended color scheme would have been this. A very fall/ cozy theme would have been ideal!

Instructions

Before I began my work/sketches, I read the instructions. This is critical in making sure the assignment is accurate and successful.

Sketch

This is my intended sketch. I included other pins that inspired me, answered the questions, and colored in for the ideal aesthetic.

cc:

2 interior design rules:

1) mix up shapes

2) anchor your room

What room did you create? --> bedroom

What interior design style are you choosing? --> farmhouse/boho

What colors are your walls*--> *would be* a rustic hunter green.

What type of appliances/furniture/decorations/fabrics are you putting into the space? --> bed, vanity, cat bed, shelf, twinkle lights, knitted fabric, posters

After I completed my sketch, I began measuring and gluing my walls together. I cut out a door frame to make it even more realistic.

I began cutting out trim for the remainder of the room. This took some practice, but after a while I successfully got it to appear the way I wanted.

I glued the trim on every corner to frame the room and make it appear more clean.

This is the room completed with all of the trim and detailing along the walls/ floors.

I started to create little furniture and detailing. I added a small teddy bear, book, and computer for some examples.

I continued going in with the personalized details. For example, I printed off posters of things I enjoy personally and made it miniature. I even made it have little tape!

To create the miniature lights on the vanity/ fairy lights, I took the hot glue gun and created little "dots". I then applied them to the attended area,

Example of how the lights were applied to the vanity. It completely changed the look (for the better) and added definition.

One of the most important souls in my life is my cat. As silly as it sounds, my dream room would only be complete with him there. To make him, I sketched out a cat outline and then cut him out.

My cat! I added a tiny cat bed and toys to make it more realistic. Details! Details! Details!

The final step was to add on the closet. I simply followed a standard closet outline and translated it onto cardboard.

Final Result! If I could change anything, I would have added more color and been a bit more careful with the hot glue gun. I am very pleased with the end result and found it very therapeutic to work on.

Quick Notes:

  • Inspired by the "slanted look" (yes it is on purpose!)

  • Big glass windows/unique layout

  • Combination of some favorite designs!

Evaluation Questions:

  • I thin I have done enough preporation- but there is always more room for learning.

  • It helped me put in persepctive exactly the vision to research

  • I did review my work. It helped me make progress as I went on .

  • I have explored my ideas through images and writing.

  • They will think it will stand out and make the city setting pop.

Balsa Tower

shape: square

  • On the other page, yes

  • Check mark!

  • I worked by adding to it as I went along. It taught me time-management skills and working through problems.

  • The big idea behind my artwork was to show a slanted piece of art that would stand out in a city setting.

  • My biggest goal was to make sure it could stand up by itself, and I did just that.

  • I saw a slanted building on pinterest and was inspired by that. *And other pieces of course!

FINAL THOUGHTS: If I had more time, I would have added more tiny squares to add dimension to the piece.

Okay first step- look on Pinterest and find inspiration.

https://www.pinterest.com/annajeiserr/architecture/skyscraper-project/

#1

This skyscraper gave me the idea of the shape to work with. I loved the stable base as well as the greenery :)

#2

This skyscraper also gets a point in greenery. I loved the slanted look of it and how it stands out compared to the other buildings.

Initial Sketches

Initially, I was not sure the design plan of my skyscraper. After working hands-on with the material, I ended up branching off sketch #4.

Okay, so now it's time to get hands on and work.

To start, I gathered my materials. I had my wooden rods, an x-acto knife, a pencil to make marks, and a hot glue gun.

I began measuring even sections of rods. I marked where I was supposed to cut with the pencil, and followed accordingly.

I then started to assemble the shape. I made the skeleton of the skyscraper.

Almost done! All that was left to do was clean up hot glue marks/strings and call it a day!

Pasta Bridge

In my final sketch, I showed how i would use a mix between triangles and squares to create a stable bridge. I also attached some of my favorite pins for inspiration in my sketchbook.

types of bridges sketch 1

includes: arch bridge, tied arch bridge, cantilever bridge, truss bridge, beam bridge, beam bridge, suspension bridge, cable-stayed bridge

types of bridges sketch 2

includes: baltimore truss, bowstring truss, warren quadrangular (lattice truss), parker truss, pauli (lenticular truss), bailey truss, camelback truss, whipple truss, pennsylvania petit truss, thatcher truss

#1- I love the "x" look of the rods. I also think the contradicting shapes are flattering to each other.

#2-This is a visual representation of how the pasta can be weighed down.

#3-This is more of a realistic weight option, also shows gave inspiration on the shape.

#4-I like this one because it shows trees, and a realistic bridge setting.

First, I sketched an outline of the shape of the bridge I wanted. This took me quite a few tries to perfect, but once I did, I was good to go! I went in with the pasta and started forming an outline.

I began forming the full shape of one of the sides. I tried to add different shapes to add dimension to the overall look.

I then tried my *best* to measure the other side identically.

Finally, I made the base. Not pictured: I added some more bars and applied the hook. I also had to measure out how wide I wanted my base to be to offer the best support.

FINAL LOOK:

I did not get the opportunity to take the picture with the blue background, but this picture still displays my final vision.

Compact Dwelling

It's not perfect, but I love this little thing!

Sketchbook work:

The first thing I did was make a base sketch that I would *attempt* to follow. I also answered questions provided in the document.

House layout:

I then went into Revit and designed a house layout that would meet all the requirements. (I also added a LOT of trees- probably my favorite thing to do in Revit)

First house draft:

Although this house was ALMOST perfect it was not quite there. I ended up adding some windows and changing up the floor to be more realistic.
