If you want over-ear hybrid noise cancelling with three tuned cancellation modes and marathon battery life, choose Anker soundcore Life Q30; if you need open-ear awareness so traffic, coworkers and your surroundings stay audible while you listen, choose 1Mii E35.
• Anker soundcore Life Q30 — biggest strength: hybrid active noise cancellation with three selectable modes (Transport, Outdoor, Indoor) plus up to 50 hours of playtime in ANC mode.
• Anker soundcore Life Q30 — biggest trade-off: it's an over-ear, around-ear design with no awareness or transparency mode, so it deliberately shuts the world out — and ANC doesn't work over the AUX cable.
• 1Mii E35 — biggest strength: an open-ear hook design that keeps you aware of your surroundings by default, with adjustable ear hooks and up to 45 hours total playtime with the case.
• 1Mii E35 — biggest trade-off: it's earbuds, not headphones — plastic and silicone build, no headphone jack, and its "noise control" is environmental noise cancellation for calls rather than active noise cancelling for you.
• Who each pick is for: the Life Q30 suits focus-seekers — flights, open offices, long listening sessions. The E35 suits movers — runners, cyclists, commuters and anyone who needs to hear what's around them.
The Life Q30 is built around one idea: making the outside world quieter. Dual noise-detecting microphones filter out up to 95% of low-frequency ambient sound, and you get three modes to match the situation — Transport to cut airplane engine drone, Outdoor to reduce traffic and wind, and Indoor to dampen the chatter of a busy office. That's a genuinely useful distinction, because the noise on a plane and the noise in a café aren't the same problem.
Sound is handled by 40mm dynamic drivers with silk diaphragms, running a 16Hz–40kHz frequency range for hi-res playback, and you can shape it yourself with a custom EQ in the app. Battery is the headline: up to 50 hours in ANC mode, up to 70 hours in standard mode, and a 5-minute charge reportedly gives you 4 hours. Bluetooth 5 with multipoint means you can stay connected to two devices — laptop and phone — and switch between them. The fit is over-ear, with protein leather earcups and memory foam padding, at 9.28 ounces.
Buy it if you want to disappear into your music or your work, and you value long battery life and app-based tuning. Skip it if you need to stay aware of your surroundings — there's no transparency mode here, and the design is intentionally isolating. Also note the 3.5mm AUX cable is included, but ANC won't function over a wired connection.
The E35 takes the opposite approach: instead of blocking sound, it lets it in. The open-ear hook design leaves your ear canal unobstructed, so you hear music and calls while still hearing cars, voices and everything else around you. That's the whole point — it's aimed at outdoor activities, commuting and office environments where blocking ambient sound is a liability rather than a feature.
The fit is the other engineering story here. Flexible ear hooks adjust through up to 60° of multi-angle movement to suit different ear shapes, giving a secure but pressure-free hold that's meant to stay put during movement. Inside, oversized 16.2mm dynamic drivers push a 20Hz–20kHz range with 22 ohm impedance, and 1Mii says the acoustic tuning reduces the sound loss typical of open designs.
Playtime is up to 18 hours per charge and up to 45 hours total with the charging case, with a 1.5-hour charge time. You get four microphones with noise reduction for calls, Bluetooth 6, and a genuinely flexible control scheme: touch controls, physical buttons, and app support for EQ and function customization. There's also an AI layer for voice chat and real-time translation across 103 languages — a niche extra, but a real one.
Buy it if you run, ride, commute or work in a shared space and refuse to be cut off from your environment. Skip it if you want serious noise cancellation, over-ear comfort, or wired listening — there's no headphone jack and no ANC.
• Best for blocking out noise → Anker soundcore Life Q30. Hybrid ANC with three purpose-built modes, filtering up to 95% of low-frequency ambient sound.
• Best for staying aware of your surroundings → 1Mii E35. Open-ear design keeps ambient sound audible by default — no mode to switch on.
• Best for workouts and movement → 1Mii E35. Adjustable 60° ear hooks, silicone construction and a secure, pressure-free fit built for sports.
• Best for long flights and open offices → Anker soundcore Life Q30. The Transport and Indoor modes exist exactly for those scenarios.
• Best for calls in noisy places → 1Mii E35. Four microphones with noise reduction are dedicated to voice pickup; the Life Q30 leans on AI-enhanced call handling instead.
• Best for over-ear comfort → Anker soundcore Life Q30. Protein leather earcups with memory foam, 9.28 ounces, built for extended sessions.
• Best for a compact carry → 1Mii E35. Earbuds plus a charging case, versus full-size over-ear headphones and a separate case.
My Verdict
In my opinion, the Anker soundcore Life Q30 is the stronger buy for most people — it gives you real active noise cancellation with modes that actually map to real situations, plus battery life that dwarfs the competition here. I'd pick the 1Mii E35 only if awareness is non-negotiable: running on roads, cycling, or working somewhere you can't afford to be deaf to what's happening around you. Those are two different jobs, and each product does its own job well. Match the job to the design, and you'll be happy either way. What is ambient aware on headphones?
Ambient aware (sometimes called transparency or aware mode) is a setting that pipes outside sound into your ears through the microphones, so you can hear traffic, announcements or a colleague talking without removing your headphones. It's the opposite of noise cancellation: instead of filtering the world out, it deliberately lets it in. The 1Mii E35 achieves this passively through its open-ear design rather than as a switchable mode.
On Bose models, aware mode is typically toggled through the Bose Music app or by cycling the ANC button on the earcup until you reach the aware/transparency setting. The exact steps vary by model, so check your model's manual.
JLab's ambient aware feature is usually toggled with a button press or a combination of controls on the earbuds, and some models let you disable it in the JLab app. Behaviour differs between models, so consult the manual for your specific pair.
On Bose headphones you'd either cycle the noise-control button back to full cancellation or quiet mode, or set it in the Bose Music app so the headphones default to ANC instead of aware mode.
