Anitu /əˈniːtə/ (uh-NEE-tuh)
Refers to a spirit, deity, or a carved figure representing one in pre-colonial Philippine indigenous religions. In Tagalog culture, anitus were often honored with carved idols or statues and with rituals to request guidance, protection, or to appease them.
