The character design process for my 2020 thesis film, "Things Will Be Okay." The film is a love letter to the beauty and horror of early 2000s internet, and I began the process by establishing the aesthetic and landscape of the environment. I used a variety of approaches to find new breakthroughs, such drawing 5-second thumbnails, using my non-dominant hand, purposefully making "bad" versions, asking other artists to draw their take on Zip and observing what they visualised from the information I gave them. Ultimately I also had to consider my limited production time, and simplified the design accordingly.
