I am an empirical economist passionate about applied microeconomics and policy evaluation. My research focuses on topics in labor, health, and regional economics, as well as their intersections.
I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, Germany. Further, I am a Research Fellow at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and a Research Affiliate at the IZA@LISER Network.
Previously, I held research and data-focused positions at TU Dresden, the Central Institute for Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Zi) in Berlin, Bamberg University, the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg, and RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen.
My work is highly characterized by evidence-based policy advice and a strong dedication to a global perspective. I have extensive consulting experience for national ministries, the European Commission, and the GIZ. This international outlook is deeply reflected throughout my career, having held research stays and professional positions in the US (Rutgers University), Australia (Universities of Sydney and Wollongong), Belgium, India, Thailand, and Switzerland, as well as conducting on-site field research in Rabat, Morocco.
