Background Information:

A friend, had this picture of her grandfather that she wanted to hang in her house. She had gotten it from her grandmother when she passed away, but it had been damaged over the years. She asked if I would be able to restore the photo before she printed it.

Design:

  • I was able to straighten the words by separating them from the picture and merging them back together.

  • I got rid of the wrinkles in the photograph.

  • I darkened the writing, so it was easier to see her grandfather’s name.

  • I removed the had written ink that did not belong on the original photograph.

Skills Used:

  • Content-aware fill, to fill in the edges after straightening the photo.

  • The straightening tool.

  • Spot healing brush tool to remove some of the wrinkles.

  • Clone Stamp Tool for small areas where the spot healing brush was too detailed and couldn’t fix the spots

  • The paint bucket and selection tool to clean up the white edges of the photo.

  • Used the Colorize feature in Photoshop and modified it, to color the picture.
