Welcome!

Hello! My name is Angie Bernal and I am so excited to be your child's 2nd grade teacher this year! I will be teaching ELA and Social Studies. ELA consists of writing, reading, and phonics. I have a passion for this content area and I am currently getting my master's from Sam Houston State in Reading/Language Arts with a reading specialist and a dyslexia certification.

Personal Background

I am a wife and a mom of 3 awesome kiddos. Autumn will be a 6th grader, Jack will be a first grader, and Jacob attends the development center, all in Denton ISD. We live pretty far away, in Decatur with our dog, cat, and bearded dragon. As a family, we love to watch movies, play games, and be outside together. I love to read. While I prefer paper books, with my long commute, I listen to a lot audio books. I also love to use my creativity through baking/decorating cookies and crafting.

Professional Background

This will be my 10th year as a classroom teacher and my third year in Denton ISD. I graduated from the University of North Texas in 2011 with my degree in Elementary Education. I have taught kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade. My year of student teaching was done in kindergarten and 4th grade. Last year, I had the unique opportunity to be the designated virtual teacher for my grade level at Nette Schultz Elementary (previously Woodrow Wilson Elementary). I was completely online and I LOVED it! I was able connect with my kiddos and they were able to connect with each other in our class meetings, Live Lunch, and small groups. The growth that I saw, both academically and emotionally, was tremendous and I felt my passion for teaching grow stronger. When I found out that Denton ISD was opening the K-8 Virtual Academy, I knew that was where I was meant to be.
