Hello,
I am Angelica Remache Lopez, a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Comparative Politics, Political Economy, and Methods. My research interests focus on migration, economic development, and corruption. I am particularly interested in the Latin American region, where my research has examined how political corruption incentivizes emigration; the impact of youth unemployment on migration; and the effects of government performance on economic and human development.
As a Latina writer, poet, social entrepreneur, and human rights advocate, I have published a mystery novel titled, “Te Voy a Contar un Secreto” and a poetry book about social and economic justice, “Utopia”. I founded a non-profit organization to assist children in extreme poverty in Latin America, and due to its success, was nominated to Forbes 30 Under 30. I served for four consecutive years as an Ambassador for the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, where I also served as a member of the Economic, Political, and Legal cluster at the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
I hold a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s in International Relations with a concentration in Economics from Harvard University.
