Air and Noise Exposure Research Group
Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
We are the Air and Noise Exposure Research Group (ANERG)!
We look at atmospheric pollutants and sources of noise in the world around us!
Our lab focuses on understanding and addressing the health impacts of air and noise pollution. We conduct cutting-edge research to measure and model indoor and outdoor pollution exposures, investigate the chemical, toxicological, and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols, and assess their effects on human health. By examining the links between air pollution, respiratory health, and factors such as nutrition, physical activity, and socio-economic status, we aim to better understand how environmental factors contribute to health risks. ANERG is also exploring toxic chemical doses in human tissues, risk assessments, traffic, rail and metro noise exposures and their health impacts while also focussing on the dual impacts of air pollution and climate change on infectious diseases.
Major Research Themes
Emission characterization and monitoring across different regions are crucial for identifying local pollution sources to help gauge the environmental, climate, and health impacts of air pollution.
Air pollution can lead to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular issues, and premature death. Assessing its impact on human health is vital for preventing illness, improving public health outcomes, and guiding environmental policy.
Noise monitoring is important for identifying excessive noise levels that can harm human health. It also helps implement control measures and ensure compliance with noise regulations to protect public well-being.
