Lighting

Haymarket represented one of two parts of my senior capstone. For this show, I synthesized everything I had learned over the past four years. Working in a space with almost exclusively incandescent fixtures, I had to determine color palettes and combinations that would tell the story - with almost a dozen locations - without the tool of LED colors. Coming off of my work on Stupid Fucking Bird, I was looking at the show with an impressionist's eye. Coincidentally, Oberlin's Allen Art Museum was running a spectactular show on Monet at the same time. I drew my gel palette from his work, as well as that of Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot. 

I also had access to a package of advanced moving head fixtures from Robe, thanks to their Next Robe Generation program. These fixtures created accent and highlight against the main systems of incandescents. 

Technical Direction

I was responsible for the rigging and electrics. Warner Main was a space with very little support, so we had to build everything from scratch. I collaborated with the scenic designer to design a constructable set that was also modular, as we had to strike and reset everything each night. 

Electrically, I redesigned the entire cable plot for the space, freeing dozens of unused cables from the grid. I managed our relationship with Robe Lighting as well as Colortone, a local rental house who provided us with a cable package to supplement the house cabling. 

To run the Robe fixtures, we needed to build our own networking from scratch. We used the fixtures' sACN-DMX protocol to essentially use each one as a gateway, exponentially increasing our address count.
