I am a theoretical syntactician and fieldworker, with a particular interest in information structure. Broadly speaking, I am interested in whether syntactic focus movement exists, how abstract notions such as focus are represented in grammar, the connection between wh-movement and focus movement, and the role of alternatives in grammar.

In addition, in several recent projects, I have investigated the interpretation of wh-words in Mixtec and restrictions on their movement.

Since 2017, I have done fieldwork in Mexico and California with speakers of San Martín Peras Mixtec.

I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington.
