I am a scientist interested in the evolution of animal cognition, morphology, development, and behaviour. I use a combination of lab and field experiments, analysis of published data, and theoretical modelling.

I am an Associate Editor of the journal Evolutionary Ecology and regularly publish in a broad range of scientific journals.

My research falls into three broad themes: evolutionary ecology, evolution of psychological mechanisms, and the science of research.

Most of my modelling using state-dependent dynamic programming, usually in Matlab for which I have developed several useful functions.

I teach statistics, develop administrative tools, and interactive outreach activities.
