Context, during the first 2 week of this college year, our Navs campus director asked how we were being bold, courageous, and taking risks. Below is how I responed and some additional thoughts.
During tabling yesterday I was given the opportunity to wayfind for 2 different students. Taking the time allows you to get to know them, and maybe even make an invite since they are sort of a captive audience.
On of my way finders was doing the look at my phone, look around, look back at my phone. He totally looked lost. I could see this from a distance and I wanted to just go back to standing at our table; however, see a need fill a need. I asked he where he was looking to go and was able to walk him in the right direction and make an invite to the lawn party.
Keeping my head up and looking at others allowed me to see and help, but it takes time to be interuptable in my self important busy life.
I have found it helpful to ask where people are going to start a conversation instead of getting the good and move on approach. Also try to get a point of follow up like a name, add to the group me or something.
I hope this all finds you well kingdom workers, let Christ move through you.
Additional thoughts. I had a conversation with Grace from Navs where we discussed that It can sometimes feel difficult have a conversation with a new person. Yet, when we can take the back seat, listen, and let God work. We are not the ones that need to drive the conversation. Listening, being interested and caring about others is what we can do. Glorifying God and taking care of his creation by loving others.

After watching both of these documentaries, which total 5.5 hrs of time, I am convinced of my need to study the scriptures more. I encourage and implore every person to watch and seek the truth through the word of God. The second documentary definitely reveals my lack of understanding of the cross in its discussion of penal substitution and the requirement of God's wrath to fulfill his being, which results in hell.

Today I watched church from Faith Manhattan and Transformation Church. What stuck out from faith was what pastor Steve Ratliff said at the end. He was discussing legacy, "Few people will make an impact based upon what they did, many will leave an impact on the lives they touched." I think this warrants a reassessment on what I am trying to do and why I do them, with the understanding the greatest impact a person has is on those around them. This is corroborated in the bible as a rightous person will save the person around them. ( I will find the reference later).
The other portion of the sermon was on wisdom out of James 3:14-18. Another takeaway was the wise are marked by skillful living.
From pastor Michael Todd of Transformation church, he is in a relationship series, first being the relationship with god. Submitting to him.

This is the month everything with COVID 19 started in the United States, so I thought it would be good to hunker down and focus on doing less, only the nessesary things.
This month also occurred during the Coronavirus. As the focus of society was to shelter in place, I thought it would be a good time to focus on growing in personal skills at home.
Every month, I like to focus have a focus. For April, it was growth. For May, it is beauty. What follows are my thoughts and learning through this leans during my quiet times. I am thinking about breaking this topic into four sections. The first is on the beauty of creation, then God in his character and nature, then relationships, and the fourth is still a work in progress.
Week 1 Beauty in Creation:
This week I have enjoy watching the plants and the animals grow and go about their business. They are all a part of God's creation, and something that brings joy to people. Nature just works. It heals and grows itself. The systems all seem to work together someway.

Week 2 Beauty in God's Character and Nature
Before I discuss these two wonderful boxes of ideas, I am going to describe how I think about them so there are agreed upon definitions.
God's character: These are description or qualities of who god is. The Nature of God speaks more to actions, what he does.
God's Character: Perfect, Holy, Merciful, Graceful, Wrath
God's Nature: Provider, Refuge, Stronghold, Defender
Ps. 100:5 "For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
There are of course more than this list entails, as supported by the entirety of scripture. It is utterly amazing God's interest, creation, and love of us.
Week 3 Relationships
Relationships occur between two different entities, and there are many facets. Here I want to focus on relationships between people. Relationships in God's economy relies on dependence, on God and one another. We see in Acts 2:42-47 that the Church took care of each others needs. God definitely calls us to love one another (John 13:34-35) This call the treat each other will is also repeated by Paul in Col 3:12-14 . Relationships can also help us to understand God's love for us.
I specifically wanted to focus on relationships between men and women, specifically in the work place. Men and Women are created in God's image (Gen 1:27). We should view each other as God's creation, that we encourage each other (Heb 10:24-25). To best honor each other, compliments are okay; however, I promote complements pertaining to actions/behavior/demeanor rather than physical attributes, and do so with a pure heart.
Acts 2: 42-47 "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together will glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
John 13:34-35 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Gen. 1:27 "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
Col. 3:12-14 "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 An d over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."
Week 4 Practical Apps
This section focus on practical or actionable ways to grow in each topic.
Creation: I have found that taking walks and spending some time to notice the weather, plants and animals (squirrels) have helped me to enjoy God's creation. Psalm 8 is a great scripture too.
God's Nature: A simple way to become aware of God's nature is to read the Psalms which is full of calls upon and praising God. Reading the word with a focus on
Relationships: A great way to start is to develop current relationships. Contacting people you have not conversed with recently, reach out.

This is the prayer Jesus gives the disciples when they ask.
I setup my journal to pray for prayer requests towards people I know, and also for myself. People that I am praying for to come to know Christ. I also think it is powerful to pray for others and the sins they are struggling with. There is also space to pray for those for things of the future. For me this is asking what God wants me to do, to find my calling (1 Peter 1:10) and also for my future wife/family/children.

And I pray that You, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide, and long, and high, and deep is the Love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus through out all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
I'll be honest. I did not even look at this verse until Saturday throughout the week. I am sure God is not surprised that I am not perfect, even when he is.
This section did make me think about if there are other prayers in other letters from Paul. They are referenced below. In this pray, Paul follows Jesus's model with lots of praise of the father, and also petitions the spirit for support.

For me to explain this the gospel effective, I think starts with an understanding of brokenness, or sin. This starts with God and who he is, which is perfect.
What is the Gospel?

I feel that I am in a lazy rut. Here I want to place some paragraphs of encouragement and simple steps to get headed in the right direction, while pointing to more resources if needed.

Seeking blamelessness. My focus for this month is towards less. Not making the simple errors. My goals for the end of this month is to continue the habits I have set, and to do them well. School and work will continue to go and I will work towards honorably.
These verses discuss seeking righteousness and caring for the poor. V3 shows that God values our obedience. This day, I want to focus on being God-Honoring at work, praying for the sick patients I see, and completing the tasks before me to the best of my ability in the workspace God has called me to.
This day God had directed me to listen to him. This proverb about skilled work stuck out as I have work at the hospital amid the epidemic and seek to produce good work in school, both of which God has given to me.
Church this week was about humility, focused on paying attention to what we are experiencing

This verse discusses a person who is always thinking about the cost. This speaks as an encouragement to be generous with what God has already provided. Especially in the case where Jessica Pennington has a place to stay. I am so happy that he has work to bring himself glory as we are able to help her out.
The first set of proverbs discusses victory through wisdom. It shows that seeking advise through many counselors is a good thing to do. The second set (Pv 29:33-34) discusses sloth. I love this picture as the world tells us to persue what we want. This shows that hard work is something to be valued.
Pv 27:19 discusses our actions being a way to discern our heart. I have been frustrated with my laziness. It feels that I can never complete enough to be enough. This is frustrating. I have told my mom an analogy: it is like I am rowing a small boat. I row and row and row and row, but when I look up, I am still in the middle of the lake and haven’t gone anywhere. This was apparent when I god a good grade back from HB2 and it didn’t make me happy.
I think it would be good to write a section to address behavior change. I will place that in this document.
Ps 111:2 discusses delighting in the work of the Lord. This can also reference to John 4:34, where Jesus delights to complete the will of the father. Pv. 30:8-9 asks God only for what is needed, otherwise we might miss our need for God or do things that dishonor him to survive. This shows our dependence on God and why excess and less are both bad.
Ps 112 shares that Good will come to those who are just and generous. That the righteous are bold and secure, because they trust in the Lord. I want this to be true in my life. That everyday I live to bring glory to God and am seeking first his kingdom and his righteousness.
This is later in the day, but I have two notes. 1) when to give up on things. I was trying to add a slick edit with a countdown on my wall sit video, no success. After 2 hours of valuable afternoon time wasted, I give up to just sent my teacher the video out of camera. I also am worried about my bar stool chair. I like it but I am worried it will break. 2) I am now excited to work on paper in the afternoon with duller light.
Fran talked a lot about this idea of “locating” our lives in the context of God’s
Story. Had you ever thought about something like that before? Do you feel like
you’ve done that with your life?
Jeremiah said God wanted His people to focus on their exile as “home” rather
than longing for it to be over (Jer. 29:4,5,7) . What difference to you think it
will make, on which of those two you and I focus on right now?
Times like this serve as a refining fire. They burn away things that aren’t
genuine or permanent (Prov. 25:4). Has God shown you anything about your
own life so far that’s surprised you? Anything about your heart that you
didn’t know was there?
Fran said that there are many ways for us to be “present” even when we’re
absent. Which of these do you think would mean most to someone else: a text
or letter, a phone call, a Skype or FaceTime call? Or put another way, words by
themselves, the sound of your voice, talking face to face? Why? (2 John 12)
Fran made a big deal about being “still” and creating space for God to talk to us
(Ps. 46:10; 1 Kg. 19:11). Have you seen your life be quieter or noisier since the
pandemic? Are there any adjustment you need to make to create space for
God to speak?
