André Neiva

I'm a Philosophy Professor at the Federal University of Alagoas in Maceió, Brazil.

In 2020, I received my Ph.D. in Philosophy from PUCRS (under the supervision of Professor Roberto Hofmeister Pich and Professor Luis Rosa).  I was also a visiting research scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from November 2018 to May 2019 (under the supervision of Professor Michael G. Titelbaum). In addition, I was a fellow of the LATAM Bridges in the Epistemology of Religion at Purdue University from August 2019 to September 2020 (under the supervision of Professor Paul Draper).

My areas of specialization are epistemology and normative decision theory. I'm also interested in philosophy of religion, philosophy of probability, formal logic, and philosophy of science. My research deals with rationality, what it is rational to believe and do, and the application of formal methods (especially probability theory) to philosophical problems. Particular topics include Bayesianism, epistemic utility theory, imprecise probabilities, comparative probabilities, interpretations of probability, Pascal's wager, and confirmation theory.
