Do you want to be the best you can be on and off the podium? In this session, participants explore how ensemble directors and music program leaders can frame the many roles they fulfil inside and outside of the rehearsal room. Attendees will be led through a framework of music educator competencies and capacities that make possible the most successful music education experiences for our students.
Paul Vickers is a passionate music educator, educational leader, consultant, and coach. He is driven by a passion for developing high performance teams and deeply committed learning cultures. Paul loves seeing others succeed in their own pursuit of excellence.
Paul has twenty-five years’ experience conducting ensembles of various abilities and ages across all educational sectors, and has led significant school music programs since 2003. Most recently, Paul spent nearly ten years as Director of Music at the Scots College, Sydney. In universities, Paul has conducted a range of ensembles in Australia and Canada. Since 2018, he has been the conductor and musical director of the Wind Symphony at the University of NSW, where he has also lectured in Music Education.
Paul is a regular contributor to professional journals, boards and advisory panels in music education and is an experienced adjudicator, speaker, clinician, and guest conductor.
Paul has also held a number of senior and executive educational leadership roles outside of Music Education. He is currently the Head of Middle School at The Scots College, Sydney, where he has previously been Director of College Improvement and Director of Co-Curricular Activities.
