This clinic will give ensemble directors unique tools to better approach the vast gap between method books and first ensemble pieces. Through a composition and analytical lens, we will look at effective ways to empower students to ‘own’ their ensemble music and present performances in a wide range of flexible groupings.
Using Kodaly-inspired methodologies ported to the ensemble conductor’s work, we will explore how to communicate the big musical concepts of time, metre, form, harmony, and part writing to beginner musicians.
Engaging and functional rehearsals for young musicians is critical to their enjoyment and longevity in any program; and this is no more critical than at their first ensemble experience. Join us for a rewarding clinic and gain new insights and ideas for your next beginner groups.
