New Year's Eve, 2007. A fraud scandal has gone public and hit 'The Company' like a ton of bricks. 'The Company' scrambles to recover meaning massive layoffs for low level employees and possible prison time for the higher ups. The accounting department need to choose amongst themselves who will take the blame, as well as deal with their imminent divorce.
Scapegoat appeared on the summer line-up as the week 13 ODN, with the performance taking place on May 20th, 2024.
For this production, I was the stage & props manager. From a props perspective, there were many to keep track of and source, especially due to cultured nature of the show and the messiness of the office setting. Working with a total production budget of £50, I worked close with the set designer to ensure we were not overlapping in buying similar props/set dressings. What also took place was some negotiating and making compromises based on what was already available in the venue and what could be borrowed from actors/crew to save on budget. Finding appropriate New Years decorations in spring also proved to be challenging - especially since the show was set in the late 2000s.
This office comedy was a lot of fun to work on and the dedication everyone had to bringing the chaos of this fictitious "The Company" to life was infectious! In 2025, this show was one of two to be selected to be taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with UoY's Drama Society! In the Edinburgh Fringe edition, I was promoted (for lack of a better term) to produce the show - for more information check out Scapegoat (EdFringe).
