A student-written dark comedy about a female friendship group at a private boarding school.
It's one week before their Hockey Cup Match, and there is a problem... one of them is missing. The play spans a week as some of the girls try to find their missing friend and others keep their cards close to their chest.
Dangerous Play appeared on the spring line-up as the week 1 weekend show, with performances from Feb. 16th-18th, 2024.
This production marked my entry into stage & props managing for drama society. I worked alongside the exec team to carefully source and create props/decor that incapsulated the unique personalities of each of the characters. During the Get-In, working alongside the set designer, we gave each actress the opportunity to decorate their own lockers on-stage, and fill it with props they could use throughout the show. The contents of each locker were selected to best fit each of the actor's characters, ranging from textbooks and calculators, to make-up supplies, to crystals and tarot cards. Each locker was also customized through decorating the insides with pictures, which I took from previous rehearsals and hockey get togethers to curate for the actors. I also created the school activities posters that were donned on the set. As the show was about a girl's field hockey team, I also had the joy of sourcing enough hockey equipment for all the actors - this included hockey sticks, balls, guards, shinpads, and bags. Luckily, the director had some equipment and gave me contact to some people in which I could source them!
As the show took place over the course of one act, most of the props that were in use had to be pre-set onstage for actors. This required planning and organization before hand, which took form in me attending rehearsals and rewatching blocking videos to track props and their journey around the set. This was my first time working with others in the society that weren't solely first years, in fact, I was the only first year a part of this production, with everyone else already knowing each other! This group of amazing ladies was very welcoming and fun to collaborate with on this new work!
