Deep in the forest, the past is being relived.
When an employment opportunity with a network marketing company emerges, Eve is quickly drawn into the fold. But as fiction becomes truth, and truth becomes fiction, the benevolent organisation soon starts reflecting the very cult she lost her mother to decades earlier.
Is the past destined to repeat itself, or is it possible to break the loop? And who are the Crows, and what do they want?
Mirror Circle. appeared on the spring line-up as the week 3 weekend show, with performances from February 28th - March 2nd, 2025.
Although producer in title, the role more so aligns itself to company stage managing. My responsibilities included organising auditions and recall schedules, sending emails to relevant parties, filling in risk assessments, scheduling rehearsals, and managing the budget. As this show was student-written, there was another element of creativity and input that all the company had in the process. I worked closely with the director to bring the Mirror Circle. vision to life.
This production had the bar set high in ambition, but a very tight turnaround. With just 7 weeks to stage our show (with 3 of these being alongside assessments/exams), organisation was key from the beginning to ensure we had time to go over all the material. Balancing rehearsals, with trailer/video filming for the video elements of the production, as well as numerous intimacy workshops/rehearsals all with the limit of the 9hr limit set by DramaSoc proved to a challenge. From working on previous shows, I felt my ability to plan and structure these events had improved and things moved very smoothly.
There was an equal focus between the rehearsal room and production team. As we wanted to create an immersive environment, we spent a long time having individual meetings with each department (some cross-overs when necessary) to not only tell them our ideas but get them creating too! Navigating a rope canopy, working neon sign, intricate costumes such as crow masks and deer antlers, and of course, the circle of mirrors that created the mirror circle took a lot of planning, testing out for safety and executing in vision.
This show represents the creative efforts of all involved, and I look back fondly at this show and time and care each company member put in. It was truly more than anything I'd ever experienced before. This didn't go unseen, because during the DramaSoc spring awards, we were the first show ever to win all three design awards! Those being "Aural Award" for sound design, "Best Innovator" for our set, and "Most Visually Impressive Weekend Show."
