Context:
The performance and development plan (PDP) provides time with my line manager to speak through goals I want to achieve as a teacher as well how I can implement these goals to meet the expectation of the school's Site Improvement Plan. The purpose of the PDP is to review performances and discuss ways to improve and continue growth as a teacher. It develops effective communication skills between myself and my line manage, to be on the same page with goals and strategies I will use to achieve them by the end of the year. Below, are my 2020 and 2021 PDP. The intended outcome is improved overall effectiveness and efficiency within the workplace.
Annotation/Action:
In 2020, I had the following three goals that I wanted to achieve by the end of the year:
To increase student achievement in writing, particularly using well-flowed sentence structures and progressing student learning in grammar and punctuation.
To develop students in the high band of maths, ensuring proficiencies are evident in their learning by the end of Term 3.
To develop positive and effective behaviour management strategies that enable maximal engagement through class.
I had summarised my goals and explained how I was going to achieve, incorporating different strategies. This included, completing daily quick writes, explicit lessons on grammar and punctuation, implementing Back 2 Front Maths tasks, differentiating accordingly and attending Early Career Teacher workshops to develop my knowledge as a teacher.
In 2021, I have the following three goals that I am aiming to achieve by the end of the year:
Increasing student critical and creative thinking skills and successfully implementing their creativity into writing tasks. Ensuring structure in genres is evident.
Developing students abilities to problem solve maths questions and demonstrate reasoning.
To implement new strategies that enhance student engagement through learning tasks.
I have summarised my goals and explain the strategies I would use in order to achieve them. This included, grammar and punctuation lessons and activities weekly, quick write time, added problem solving questions in each maths lesson and challenging current band learners and gathering data from PD's on effective engagement strategies.
Results:
This PDP has not only allowed to reflect on my own teaching, but to also discuss with my parents what my goals are, short term and long term which is rewarding. I find PDP meeting times useful, as I can openly discuss how I am feeling, any concerns, what I'd like support with and identifying what my goals are to continue my growth as a teacher. My line manager has helped me with this by providing me with resources and enabling me to reflect on my own practice out loud, which is always a sense of relief to know what is going well and what needs acknowledgement.
Evaluation:
I do enjoy doing these PDP analysis. It isn't very often as a teacher you get the team to sit down and reflect on how your going, therefore this provides the perfect opportunity to do so and not only with myself, but with the principal of the school. It allows myself time to think about specific aspects of my teaching, and what I can do to help the school achieve their SIP goals as well as improving student development in Numeracy and Literacy.
