Dr. Amna Batool earned her PhD from the School of Information Technology at Deakin University, Burwood Campus, Victoria, Australia, commencing in February 2019 and completing in October 2023. Her doctoral research focused on human-device interaction behaviors in IoT collectives, particularly those embedded with AI. During her PhD, she was awarded the International Education Resilience Fund for her project on 'Interaction Patterns for Human-Device Interaction Behaviour in IoT Devices.'
Dr. Batool has received numerous awards and achievements for her contributions to research and academia. In 2021, she was a faculty finalist in the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) competition at Deakin University. She won the Best Presentation Award at the Deakin HDR conference and the Best Research Poster Award from the IEEE Victorian Section in 2020 for her research. Additionally, she was honored with the Best Teacher Award at Red Sea College in Jeddah in 2018. Her research outputs have been published in high-ranking conferences and journals, reflecting the impact and quality of her work.
Dr. Batool's professional experience spans both research and teaching roles. Since March 2023, she has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at CSIRO’s Data61 in Melbourne, where she researches AI governance and Responsible AI. Before this, she worked as a Robotics Researcher at Exaptec in Melbourne, where she developed and implemented custom programming solutions for robotic applications. She also served as a Sessional Lecturer at Deakin University for about four years, preparing students for practical lab work, marking assessments, and engaging students in their learning process. Earlier in her career, Dr. Batool worked as a Project Administrator at Pakistan International School Jeddah and as a Software Developer at Punjab University Lahore's Jeddah Branch.
In addition to her professional and academic achievements, Dr. Batool has actively engaged in various volunteer and community initiatives. She served as a STEM Sisters Ambassador, organizing events to support STEM education for women in IT. In this role, she organized and hosted an event where experts from various locations in Australia were invited to share their STEM journey, fostering a collaborative and inspirational environment for participants. She was also a member of the Organizing Committee for the ASE Conference in Melbourne in November 2020 and the Generate22 Conference in March 2022. From March 2020 to March 2022, Dr. Batool represented HDR students at Deakin University, facilitating feedback and coordinating activities to address student concerns. She has also volunteered at the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI), arranging social events and guiding students on city tours to enhance their English communication skills.
