Guro Frank Ortega's tenure in the martial arts spans several decades, encompassing not only street fighting but also traditional Chinese, Japanese and Filipino arts. His early instruction was with bladed arts by his uncle in both the long and broad machetes as well as the daga. Weapon and empty-hands training continued to be his lifelong endeavor. He later trained with notables such as Kai Qi Leung (Shaolin and Tai Chi), B.P. Chen (Chinese broadsword), Toshio Tamano (Goju Ryu karate and kobudo), and Tuhon Leo Gaje (PTK filipino combat arts).
