I cannot for the life of me figure out how to purchase wifi for the flight. I've purchased tickets, its not an international flight. GoGoAir didn't work. American Airlines does nothing to explain how to purchase it. Do you have to use GoGo? Did i do something wrong? Any help is much appreciated.

I did a speed test once and was getting 0.70 down and 0.39 up not even a full meg for either. Tried getting a refund from panasonic wifi because the wifi was completely unusable unless you wanted to wait 5 minutes for pages to load. They denied my refund because of the data that the speedtest used which they claim proved that I was able to use the wifi just fine.

AA wifi does cost money, but you can stream video content and it works at quick speeds. Something you cant do on Southwest which charges $8 a segment. With AA wifi, you get what you pay for. With a citi AA business CC, you can save 20% off the wifi.

My son is in university in Montreal and we frequently fly between PHL and YUL on American Eagle flights. One of the first announcments the flight attendant makes during boarding is that the plane doesn't have wifi. Obviously, wifi is almost expected now, and it's hard for people, including my son and me, to be disconnected even for a fairly short flight (it's booked for 1 hour 40 mins but usually takes around an hour). My son is in university in Montreal and we frequently fly between PHL and YUL on American Eagle flights. We fly Air Canada whenever we can because they have wifi, but they only have one flight a day.

Wow, guess it's easy to be nasty. We can easily survive without wifi, the purpose of my post was to say we'd prefer to have it and were not the only ones since it's one of the first annoucments made by the flight attendants. I run a business where I set myself apart from my competitors by responding to my clients quickly. My son travels on the weekends and likes follow his sports teams. Such malicious comments to a benign post.

I can't speak to the wifi for streaming but I can say that we flew your exact route in April and the technology/entertainment was positively archaic. I didn't try to use WiFi - my surprise came from the fact that American doesn't even have on-demand programming yet. For anything I wanted to watch, I had to wait until the next time the program or movie was starting. It was crazy. I flew Delta internationally a few months later and it was positively fabulous...dozens and dozens of movies I wanted to watch.

I flew AA from SJC to OHR and connected to London from there.

On the first leg I tried to use the wifi to check what gate my flight was leaving from at O'hare. After trying for about 10 to 15 minutes I gave up. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Thanks everyone for all the useful info! After speaking with MLB TV, they claim that I should be able to at least listen to the audio stream even with fair-to-middling wifi. I will give it a try and report back after my return. They also claim that with my MLB Playoff package I should have no problem video streaming in Italy but the wifi quality is obviously much more crucial for video. With the +7 hour time difference I will probably try to avoid spoilers and watch a day after the fact.

Intelsat has announced Wi-Fi upgrades with other airlines this year, including Alaska Airlines, Air Canada and, most recently, Aerolineas Argentina, the first Latin American carrier to offer its Electronically Steered Array antenna Internet connection equipment.

Recently I found certain aircraft of AA equipped with different WiFi vendor/service called "Viasat". There is no link to T-mobile login. And the flight attendant has no idea how to make it work as it was with Gogo wifi. Anybody has experienced the same?

it might be useless to you but a lot of folks still use GoGo on flights and a lot of other airlines still use it. Viasat is Satellite internet that anyone can buy so I'd imagine AA is buying a business plan and then reselling it directly to their customers unlike other airlines like Delta and United that are using GoGo which is a third party service. There is less income for the airline when using third party services vs reselling wifi directly

I also noticed while playing around on Visiat that there is a place to login to GoGo, however it forces you to have an account with GoGo unlike before, would there be a way to login and use the 1hr free wifi?

One of the reasons I moved to T-Mobile was for the inflight wifi, and now that is becoming useless. The service (dropped calls, poor service, no service...) is far less than Verzion but the fringe benefits like the inflight wifi was worth the move for me and the additional 3 lines I brought over. But that is quickly diminishing.

Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi does connect (look at Network Preferences > Wi-Fi), and does allow the airline's own website to load. Once there, you can search for in-flight Wi-Fi documentation and tips. You can completely bypass the need for a captive portal if you go to the airline's Wi-Fi page, then either sign in or sign up for Wi-Fi there. Example pages for a few airlines, all using Gogo:

It's hard to find a clear answer, though it's entirely possible that airlines are replacing what we think of as captive portals with web pages offering multiple services (inc. entertainment) or auto-forwarding to these web pages. (See attached screenshot of unitedwifi.com)

We have two users traveling internationally who have both been unable to utilize open wifi captive portal internet connections (United airlines and their hotel). Both are on MacOS 12.4, Sophos EP Agent version 10.3.7. One user did not have the problem before upgrading to Monterey. A third user on the same trip with a similarly configured laptop, but without Sophos EP, has not had the same problem. Frustrating to have them struggling and to come here and see this issue unresolved for over 3 weeks.

On American Airlines flights, for internet facilities like chatting, email, and browsing, you have to purchase the subscription plan of AA wifi. The paid packages of American Airlines let you surf the internet while flying.

With flight operations of more than 6400 flights per day to nearly 350 domestic and international destinations all over the world, American Airlines makes sure that the fly experience onboard is never compromised. Passengers flying with American Airlines can use AA wifi to stream their favorite movies, use messaging apps, or do online shopping during the flight. Compared to other airlines, AA has a high percentage of its fleet that is already equipped with high-speed wifi. Also, the airline commits to having speedier, satellite-based wifi on all its aircraft (domestic and international) in the upcoming years.

The next time you plan to fly with American Airlines, consider this handy guide to know how to use AA infight wifi service so that you can enjoy your flight journey. If you want to know about the inflight wifi services of other airlines, we have you covered. Check our United in-flight wifi service and Delta in-flight wifi service. If you want to know anything else or have any queries, do let us know. Our team, at MyTicketsToIndia, will provide you with all the information.

Earlier this year American became the first airline to allow streaming on its entire mainline fleet. Note, however, that the airline does not offer free access to wifi, with fees starting from US$10 depending on the route.

For those planning to stay connected or get some work done in the air, in-flight Wi-Fi costs can really add up, with airlines charging by the hour or offering any number of paid packages. Needless to say, having to shell out more for Wi-Fi during a flight can be a real pain for leisure travelers and quickly become a major expense for frequent business travelers.

It turns out that there are other ways to dodge pesky Wi-Fi fees. Below, Select breaks down the best ways to avoid in-flight Wi-Fi costs on your next trip, whether by traveling with certain airlines, signing up for travel rewards credit cards that include it as a benefit, maintaining elite status, flying in premium classes or by simply having the right cell phone provider.

As far as international airlines, Air New Zealand offers complimentary internet on all Wi-Fi-enabled flights, while Qantas offers it on select domestic flights. Nok Air, a low-cost carrier based in Thailand, also provides complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi aboard its Boeing 737 flights. e24fc04721
