AMER as a young navigator with the RAF Bomber Command 1944
I am presenting a biography of my relative, who served as a Navigator with the RAF Bomber Command during WW2 and went on to serve in the Royal Ceylon Air Force and became its first Ceylonese commander.
Back in the early 1990s when I first started collecting medals, my father, whose group of medals was the first in my collection, said "You should ask Aunty Aloma for Uncle Rohan's Medals. He won the DFC twice in the last war." Fancy that, if not for my hobby I would never have known that my father's relative was a war hero. After several years of research, contacting his family members, surviving crew members and their families, the RAF, the SLAF (formerly RCyAF), and various squadron associations, I have pieced together his story.
