Every song in the soundtrack is written in English. Since the soundtrack was only released in Japan, their names have been transliterated by the team making the soundtrack from their Japanese names, giving them the appearance of being misspelled from their official western counterparts.

I've played Phantasy Star 3 and Phantasy Star 4 and the difference between the two is night and day. PS3, despite its good elements, has a lot of jank that gets in the way of enjoyment: first, the Fantasy settings doesn't mix well with some Sci-Fi elements. Forgettable soundtrack. But above all the grinding is unbearable. Way way way much than the Shining Force games, to give you an idea about how aweful it is. ^^

The character design of the party and the monsters is superb, the Sci-Fi settings well implemented (the world of Algol might stay with you for a long time). The soundtrack is stellar. Some of your party members are quite convincing roleplay-wise. But the most striking aspect of Phantasy Star 4 is the way how major cutscenes are told: through comic panels drawn with great talent. There's a certain death scene in the game that is unforgettable. Some bosses are utterly badass, some of them huuuge.

Phantasy Star 1, outside of the initial grinding, is very fun, better than Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest installments at the same time, at least in part because the repetitive battles felt strangely aracade-y and all the 4 party members were well-balanced. Although a lot of versions of the soundtrack were poor quality, I preferred the rock-oriented feel of the soundtrack to the poppiness of the better mixes. Although the styles of the subsequent soundtracks suggest that this wasn't necessarily the intent.

The GOAT, and for years my favourite JRPG ever (only fairly recently ousted by Persona 5, for what it's worth). Story caps off the arc set by the first two games, with an optional dungeon even paying lip-service to the third. Great characters, awesome manga-style comic-panel story scenes, badass soundtrack, and the combat's pretty damn solid too. No notes, it's amazing.

I only recently played the multiplayer of these and thought it was garbage. Singleplayer ain't bad; it's janky as all hell in the way an online game pretending to be a singleplayer game (or was it the other way around? :P ) could be, but the characters and story were pleasant enough. Not the best ever, but I enjoyed the sights and sounds (especially the soundtrack, some of which I still love to this day) enough to want to replay these at some point in the future; especially Illuminus on PS2 -- I gather the online story arc, no longer available, was somewhat different? Either way, I still own the four of them on PS2 and PSP for a reason.

Seriously, do it. Having the exp/mst boost and the FM soundtrack improves it enough to almost feel like a whole nother game with little to no grind. Although I have beaten the original Phantasy Star legitimately (admittedly, many years ago) I think any replays I do would be with this patched version.

Similarly, there's a patch to PSII which boosts the exp/mst gain from battles and I replayed with that not too long ago; it was a good time.

Not the best picture but I am pretty happy with this newly added

Yoko Taro shelf, hehe. I had to find a spot for the Snow White box

and this turned out to be the best solution even if a few other items

had to go into hiding. I should probably add Drakengard 1 to the shelf

but fitting all of the soundtracks would be harder, especially since

there will be yet another set of vinyls later this year! be457b7860
