Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam is the first south India movement established for the welfare of the deprived community in South India.
Dr.Vai. Balasundaram founder formed ‘Ambedkar People Movement’ in 1977 in a ceremony held at Rajaji Hall, Chennai, in the esteemed presence of Mr. Prabhudas Patwari, Hon’ble then Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam will stand for Social Justice in the Indian society. The party will always fight for those who for ages have been at the last rung of the social ladder. The party will stand to ensure the Social, Political and Economic rights to the poor, backwards and the destitute belonging to any caste, community or religion. This requires struggle which will be undertaken through the pathway of Parliamentary democracy. Strengthening the voice of the weak through people’s movement, the party will register itself through its presence in legislative politics. Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam will fight for the issues and rights of the Dalits, the oppressed, the backwards and the minorities. The sole aim of the party will be to draw the attention of the Government and the Country to the plight of those who have been wronged historically.
Notably, Dr. Balasundaram was instrumental in implementation of ‘Nagarpalika Act’ in the whole country with reservation to women and SC/STs; since then he has been remembered for SC/ST’s reservation in local bodies in the country, while Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is already known for that in legislative bodies.
After the demise of Dr. Vai. Balasundaram, the party is led by his brother Vai.Ramalingam B.Sc, B.L, with the leadership of Siva.Murugesan in the capacity of General Secretary of the party.mbedkar

Dr. V. Balasundaram (born 1942) popularly known as ‘Father of Scheduled Caste Movements of South’.He entered into the public life for the upliftment of the deprived communities at the age of 20, became Mayor of Madras in 1969 at the age of 24 and served as MLA of Tamil Nadu in 1971-77.After the 1975 emergency, Dr. Balasundaram left his Dravidian party and realized his own autonomous space withinthe struggles of the underprivileged communities and formed ‘Ambedkar People Movement’ in 1977 in ceremony held at Rajaji Hall, Chennai, in the esteemed presence of Mr. Prabhudas Patwari, Hon’ble then Governor of Tamil Nadu.Notably, Dr. Balasundaram was instrumental in implementation of ‘Nagarpalika Act’ in the whole country with reservation to women and SC/STs; since then he has been remembered for SC/ST’s reservation in local bodies in thecountry, while Dr. B.R. His outreach across political spectrum was seen when Ministers of Government of Tamil Nadu, Leader of Opposition of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, political leaders, and icons of disadvantaged section movements of the state paid homage to the veteran leader at his home on 6 December 2019.

Ramlingam is the only brother of Dr. Vai. Balasundaram who has been serving more than 50 years for social welfare.
He is leading a lawyer in High of court of for free of costHe was significantly fighting against to the government seeking 22% reservation during 1989-90
He also work as an acting leader of Ambedkar Makkal Iyakam when the Founder Pavalar Dr Vai.BalaSundaram was seak ,His brother Vai.Ramalingam took the whole Ami under his control and plays as important role for these past year and now he was selected as the President of Ambedkar Makkal Iyakkam and His son R.Prasanna Elected as the Secretary of State for Youth.
SIVA.MURUGESAN
GENERAL SECRETARY-AMI
Siva.Murugesan is the general secretary of ambedkar makkal iyakkam.who has been serving more than 40years for social welfare.
He has been spreading ambedkar ideologies from his age of 18.
He holds M.A from ANNAMALAI UNIVERSITY ,Chidambaram.
Mr. Siva Murugesan joined the Ambedkar People's Movement in 1987 as a grassroots activist and later worked hard for the development of the movement and held the posts of Union Youth, Secretary, Union Under Secretary and Union Secretary. She later served as the District Youth Secretary from 1977-1998. Then in 2003 he took over as Thanjavur district chief. After the demise of Vai. Balasundaram, Siva Murugesan took over as the Organizing Secretary of the State in 2018 for the development of the movement and for the sustainability of the party.In 2019, he took over as the general secretary of the party.
A leader who has staged hundreds of protests and been repeatedly arrested for upholding justice. Mr. Siva Murugesan has been doing his best for the last 40 years for all issues. For social justice, Ambedkar spread the fame of Vai.ba all over Tamil Nadu
Mr. Siva Murugesan is an indispensable leader in the politicsal field.
He also played a key role in installation of numerous Ambedkar statues across the state.
