If you want a secure, breathable fit that keeps your ears open while you navigate city streets and need reliable hands-free calling for your daily commute, choose Amazfit Up; if you need deep sound isolation, immersive Hi-Fi audio quality, and the longest possible battery life to last through a week of travel without charging, choose TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench.
• Amazfit Up: Its biggest strength is the open-ear design that offers all-day comfort and situational awareness, but it trades off absolute silence since it cannot block out loud traffic or engine noise.
• TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench: Its biggest strength is the powerful -45dB active noise cancellation and detailed Hi-Fi tuning, but it requires an in-ear seal that some find less comfortable for extended wear.
• Who is this for? The Amazfit Up is ideal for commuters who prioritize safety and ear health over total silence, while the TANCHJIM TENCH fits those seeking a premium, isolated listening experience with gaming-grade low latency.
The Amazfit Up is built around a specific philosophy: you should be able to hear the world while you enjoy your music. This isn't just about comfort; it is a functional design choice for anyone who needs situational awareness. The open-ear structure leaves the ear canal completely unobstructed, which means there is no pressure buildup or "plugged" feeling even after hours of use. For a commuter on a busy bus or walking down a crowded sidewalk, this is a game-changer. You can listen to podcasts or take calls without having to constantly remove your device to hear announcements or approaching vehicles.
The durability features are tailored for the active lifestyle of a modern user. With an IPX4 water-resistance rating, these earbuds can handle sweat during a workout or a sudden splash of rain on your morning jog without issue. The touch controls are designed to resist humidity, ensuring that whether your hands are damp from a gym session or your fingers are cold from winter air, the response remains precise. The Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity provides a stable link up to 10 meters, allowing you to leave your phone in your pocket or bag while moving through a station or office.

However, this design comes with a clear trade-off regarding isolation. Because the drivers sit outside the ear canal rather than inside them, they cannot create the passive seal needed to block out low-frequency rumble like train engines or heavy traffic. If your primary goal is to shut out the chaos of a subway car, this model will not deliver that silence. It is best suited for people who value safety and comfort above total immersion, making it a strong contender for the best lightweight earphones for commuting where hearing your surroundings is non-negotiable.
In stark contrast, the TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench is engineered for those who want to disappear into their audio. The in-ear design creates a physical seal that, combined with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capable of -45dB reduction, effectively erases the noise of the outside world. Whether you are sitting on a noisy bus, navigating a construction zone, or trying to focus in a bustling café, these earbuds provide a quiet sanctuary. The inclusion of Transparency Mode is also critical for commuters; when you need to hear a crossing guard or a conversation nearby, you can toggle this feature instantly without taking the earbuds out.
The audio performance here is driven by a 10mm beryllium-coated dynamic driver, which delivers a level of detail and clarity that open-ear designs struggle to match. The tuning focuses on smooth ultra-high frequencies, a balanced midrange, and deep bass extension. This makes the Mino ASANO Tench an excellent choice for audiophiles who want their music to sound as close to a live venue as possible. Furthermore, the support for wireless charging adds a layer of convenience that is rare in this price bracket, allowing you to simply drop the case onto a Qi pad overnight.
This product shines specifically for users who need long battery endurance. With up to 6 hours of playback on a single charge and a total of 37 hours with the case, you can go nearly a full week without needing to plug in the case itself. The low latency mode, dropping delay to 0.086 seconds, ensures that video watching and gaming feel perfectly synchronized. While the in-ear shape might not be the best kids headset for commuting for every child due to the seal required, it is a robust solution for adults and older teens who demand high-fidelity sound and total immersion.

For my own daily commute, I would buy the TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench. While the Amazfit Up is undeniably comfortable and safe, the sheer volume of noise on public transit often renders open-ear designs ineffective unless you crank the volume dangerously high. The TANCHJIM's ability to cut out the roar of the engine with its -45dB ANC allows me to listen at lower, safer volumes while enjoying superior sound quality. The extra battery life and wireless charging capability make it a more practical tool for a busy schedule where I cannot afford to hunt for a charger mid-week. Ultimately, if you are looking for the kids headset for commuting or personal use where immersion matters most, the Tench delivers a significantly richer experience.
Both models are suitable for exercise with IPX4 water resistance, but the Amazfit Up is better for outdoor runners who need to hear traffic, while the TANCHJIM Tench is better for gym-goers who want to block out gym noise.
Yes, both the Amazfit Up and the TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench support Bluetooth 5.3 and are fully compatible with iOS and Android systems, including app customization for the TANCHJIM.
The Amazfit Up case takes approximately 2 hours to charge fully, while the TANCHJIM case supports fast charging via USB-C and wireless charging, though specific time estimates vary by charger used.
Only the TANCHJIM MINO ASANO Tench features true Active Noise Cancellation with up to -45dB reduction; the Amazfit Up relies on its open design and AI noise reduction for calls only.
