If you want open-ear comfort with all-day battery life for long library sessions, choose Amazfit Up; if you need deep bass, a compact in-ear seal, and modern Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, choose Defunc True LITE II.
• Amazfit Up: Best for users who prioritize an unobstructed ear canal and extended 24-hour playtime, though it lacks the deep bass punch of traditional in-ear designs. Ideal for those seeking reliable comfort during long study hours or workouts where airflow matters.
• Defunc True LITE II: Best for listeners who crave rich bass and a secure, sealed fit with the latest Bluetooth 6.0 standard, though its 20-hour total battery life is slightly shorter than the competition. Perfect for commuters or students who want a Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic and immersive sound.
The Amazfit Up stands out immediately because of its open-ear design. This isn't just a marketing buzzword; it fundamentally changes how the earbuds interact with your environment. The product data sheet specifies that these earbuds keep your ear canal completely unobstructed while staying secure. For someone spending hours in a quiet library, this feature is transformative. You can listen to your audiobook or focus music without creating a vacuum effect or blocking out ambient noise entirely, which often leads to fatigue with traditional in-ear buds. The on-ear placement ensures that even after four or five hours of continuous use, your ears remain breathable and comfortable.
Battery performance is another critical area where the Amazfit Up shines. With an average battery life of 24 hours and a carrying case that adds another 18 hours of charge, this device is built for endurance. You are looking at a total potential listening time that far exceeds many competitors. If your daily routine involves moving from morning study sessions to afternoon meetings without easy access to a charging outlet, the 2-hour charging time for the case means you rarely worry about running dry. The IPX4 water resistance rating also suggests these are durable enough for sweaty gym sessions or unexpected rain, making them versatile beyond just library use.

However, there are trade-offs you must consider before committing. Because the design is open, the audio driver is a balanced armature type rather than a dynamic one. While this offers clarity, it naturally sacrifices the heavy, thumping bass that some users expect. Additionally, the active noise cancellation mentioned in the controls is likely focused on call quality to filter wind and background noise during conversations, not on silencing the library hum. If your primary goal is to block out the world completely to enter a trance-like state of concentration, the open architecture might feel too exposing. But if you value situational awareness and ear health over isolation, this is a top contender.
The Defunc True LITE II takes a different approach, focusing on delivering a classic, immersive listening experience with a modern twist. These are semi-in-ear headphones designed to create a physical seal in the ear canal. This physical barrier allows the 13mm dynamic driver to push more air and produce the rich bass and balanced stereo sound described in the specifications. For a listener who enjoys the full frequency range of their music, from deep sub-bass lines to crisp vocals, this dynamic driver configuration is superior to the balanced armature found in open designs. The passive noise cancellation provided by the in-ear fit helps dampen external distractions, which can be a significant advantage when trying to focus in a busy public space.
Connectivity is where the Defunc model truly steps into the future. It utilizes Bluetooth 6.0 technology, which is a generation ahead of the Bluetooth 5.3 found in the Amazfit Up. This newer standard typically promises faster reconnection times, better stability in crowded wireless environments, and lower power consumption. For a student relying on low-latency performance for watching video lectures or engaging in quick calls, this upgrade matters. The inclusion of ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) for calls further ensures that your voice comes through clearly even in noisy settings, complementing the in-ear seal that already blocks some ambient sound.
The aesthetic and build philosophy here leans heavily into Scandinavian minimalism. The lightweight ergonomic fit is designed for natural comfort, and the "in-ear" shape provides a secure hold that feels different from the hook-style open-ear buds. The item weight is listed at 50 grams, which includes the case, suggesting a slightly heavier but substantial build compared to the 43-gram total of the Amazfit. While the total playtime is capped at 20 hours, which is less than the Amazfit's 24 hours, it still covers a full day of moderate use. This product is ideal for those who view audio as a lifestyle accessory, wanting a sleek, blue-colored device that matches their outfit and offers premium sound engineering without complexity.
• Best for Battery Life → Amazfit Up: With 24 hours of average playtime plus an additional 18 hours from the case, the Amazfit Outlasts most daily routines without needing a mid-day charge.
• Best for Sound Depth and Bass → Defunc True LITE II: The 13mm dynamic driver and in-ear seal deliver the rich, full-range audio that open-ear buds simply cannot replicate physically.
• Best for Connectivity Standards → Defunc True LITE II: Bluetooth 6.0 offers a more advanced connection protocol than the Bluetooth 5.3 used by the Amazfit Up, ensuring better stability and speed.
• Best for Situational Awareness → Amazfit Up: The open-ear design keeps your ear canal clear, allowing you to hear library announcements or friends approaching without removing the buds.
• Best for Passive Isolation → Defunc True LITE II: The semi-in-ear fit creates a physical barrier that naturally blocks more external noise than the open design of the Amazfit Up.
• Best for Long-Term Comfort in Heat → Amazfit Up: By leaving the ear canal unobstructed, the Amazfit Up prevents the buildup of heat and moisture common with sealed in-ear designs.
• Best Value for Modern Tech → Defunc True LITE II: You get the latest Bluetooth generation and dynamic drivers in a package designed for everyday versatility and style.
• Best for Active Versatility → Both: Both units carry an IPX4 rating, meaning they handle sweat and light rain equally well for gym or outdoor library use.
After weighing the specs and the specific needs of a library user, I would personally choose the Amazfit Up. The open-ear design is a game-changer for long-duration listening in shared spaces like libraries, where you need to maintain awareness of your surroundings and avoid ear fatigue. The ability to go nearly a full day without charging is also a practical necessity for students who forget to plug in devices overnight. However, if your priority is absolute immersion and you don't mind wearing a sealed earbud, the Defunc True LITE II is the stronger choice for its superior bass response and cutting-edge Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity. Ultimately, for a library setting where comfort and battery endurance are paramount, the Amazfit Up is the tool I would reach for.
Both options are rechargeable and suitable for libraries, but the Amazfit Up is better for open-air comfort, while the Defunc True LITE II offers a sealed fit for better noise isolation if you prefer silence.
Not necessarily; the Amazfit Up relies on its open design for comfort, whereas the Defunc uses passive isolation and ENC for calls. Spatial audio quality depends more on the driver type (dynamic vs. balanced armature).
The Amazfit Up features active noise cancellation primarily for call clarity and wind filtering, while the Defunc True LITE II relies on passive noise cancellation created by the in-ear seal to block ambient sound.
Yes, the Amazfit Up offers 24 hours of playtime compared to the Defunc's 20 hours, giving you an extra four hours of listening time per charge cycle, which can be crucial for long travel days.
